Chapter 48: Making Up

I settled into the warm water of the tub, the quiet of the bathroom enveloping me in a warm embrace, but my mind was anything but calm.

Thoughts of Cathy, my dear friend, consumed me.

She was going through a tough time, and I couldn't shake the feeling of helplessness that gripped me and to think that Gabby refused to listen to reason…it made me frustrated beyond words.

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't hear the door creak open.

It wasn't until Gabby's familiar voice broke through my reverie that I realized I wasn't alone.

"Mind if I join you, Kiki?" she asked, her tone gentle.

Turning to see Gabby standing there, I couldn't help but frown. Usually, I would always feel relieved after seeing Gabby, but today, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed.

“Do you really want to?” I asked her, trying to keep the irritation out of my voice. “After everything that just happened?”
