"Pufferfish Duke" Chapter 32

Upon the situation I was in, I froze, my hand still clutching a delicate necklace of pearls. I had become used to the whispers, the rumors, the stares. After all, being the Duchess of the Louis family meant I was a figure of both admiration and scorn.

But this... this felt different. My heart skipped a beat as I noticed Leo's eyes narrow dangerously.

"Stop this nonsense, or you will face consequences," Leo growled, his voice as cold and dangerous as winter's chill.

The bald man immediately shut his mouth, his face draining of color. He muttered something under his breath before quickly turning away.

"That's enough, Leo," I whispered, my fingers brushing against his arm. I knew he hated being disrespected, but there was something about this man's comment that unsettled me.

Yet, Leo remained silent, his attention still fixed on the man until he was out of earshot.
