Determined, Arix wasted no time. She picked up a carving knife and started engraving runes into the Vita Crystal.

The Vita Crystal was essential because it held Vita's psychic power, symbolizing healing and rebirth. Only an Awakened Ware made from Vita Crystal could awaken a Psychic Incarnation; using a regular Insectoid Core, no matter how well carved, wouldn't do the trick.
