Chapter Five

His father sat up and the nurse rushed over to help raise him up gently. Mr Carter gestured for the nurse to leave leaving only Grey and Him in the room.

"How long have you been like this?" Grey asked crossing his arms across his chest as he watched his sick father.

"A while" he father said with a light chuckle. "You don't look happy to see your old man"

"Why did you call me here?" Grey questioned ignoring his last remark. Mr Carter coughed holding unto his chest and Grey watched silently having a mental battle about if he should help or not.

"I'm very sick as you can see" his father breathed finally calming down. "I wrote my will and I want you to have a copy" he continued pointing at the desk beside Grey.

Grey looked at him in confusion picking up the file. "What will? I'm your only child. And I know for a fact you're not the type to give out anything to charity" he questioned going through the file while his father just laughed at his comment.

He read through and stoped glaring at his father. "What do you mean marriage?" He asked looking at his father in anger.

"My son" he stated but ended up coughing again while Grey just watched in rage. "I don't want you to end up lonely like me" he continued. "I want you to be happy and have someone to support you"

"You ended up lonely because you let your wife die" Grey spat looking down at his father.

"That's not the case" his father defended. "I've told you severally I didn't mean for any of those things to happen"

"Then tell who the man is" Grey pushed on bending down to his father's level. Mr Carter shook his head with a sigh

"I want you to move on" the man said unhinged by his son's relentlessness. "That's why I put that condition in my will"

Grey got up slowly looking at his father in the eyes. They both stared at each other for a long time either of them ready to back down for the other. They were really a father and son duo.

"Fine!" Grey said turning away. "Six months and that's it" he said throwing the file unto his father's bed. "So call your lawyer and edit that"

"One year" his father stated picking the file up from the bed. "One year and that's final" "One?-okay fine" he breathed picking out his phone from his Pocket.

"I have a girl in mind if you need my help" his father said with a smile.

"No! I not going to spend one year with a woman you picked up for me" Grey said sarcastically picking his jacket from the desk where he had placed it. "I'll find someone for myself"

"Good" his father breathed lying back down. "Tell the nurse I need a refill" he said as he turned away pulling the covers up on his body.

Grey looked down at the frail man Infront of him with sad eyes. They didn't have the best relationship, but he had to admit he made him made him what he was today.

With a sigh, he turned to leave and as he held unto the door handle, he heard his dad call out to him.

"What?" He asked still backing his father

"Tell Henry to review the budget" he said making Grey smile as he walked out. Grey called over the nurse instructing her and the guards to take proper care of his father before walking away.

He walked down the stairs and into the kitchen slowly decreasing his pase. He looked at the massive pool that could be seen from a side window in the kitchen and memories of his childhood came flooding back. He blinked rapidly trying to stop his tears and picked up his phone calling Evan.

"Bring the car back front now" he instructed looking round at the big kitchen one last time before walking out.

He reached the main door and saw Mr Lockwood and Evan were already parked there waiting for him. He looked back at the guards who bowed to him in respect and nodded before entering the car and was driven out of the compound.

"Evan?" He called out after some thought. "Call Clara and set up a meeting" "O-okay Sir" Evan said surprised but obidiently.

MEANWHILE, Bella stood in the middle of her small apartment. She had just gotten home and was holding unto the gold card like her life depended on it. She dropped the brown box on the floor and placed the card inside her favorite novel. "The billionaire's world".

She bent down checking the remaining contents in the box. She couldn't believe her luck, of all the cars she was hit by the most popular billionaire in the whole state. She had never seen his face before, but from what she'd heard he was a very handsome tall man with dark hair, brown eyes and sharp jawlines that looked like they where carved by a sculpter.

She face palmed herself. "How could I have mistook his assistant for him" she mumbled red from embarrassment. And with a bright smile on her face, she placed the box in a side of the cramped room.

Het smile dropped as she looked around her apartment coming back to reality, she was still in a deep debt and no chance in hell will a billionaire especially Grey Carter be impressed enough to hire her.

He hadn't even come down to see who he had hit.

She sighed deflated as she packed her brown hair into a messy bun revealing her distinctive green eyes. She just wanted to be happy, but why was that so hard? She had to get money from a loan shark to pay for her mother's surgery and her mother still ended up dying.

Tears streamed down her face as Bella looked in the mirror. She had gotten a mail from them a month prior, and if she wasn't able to pay back in three months, she would be taken and made to work for the money. Knowing what kind of person he was, she had an idea of what kind of work that would be.

She shuddered.

looking round the small room, she picked out her small first aid box to treat her wounds from the fall and her eyes glanced at the card again. She could beg for work? Even if it meant cleaning, she was willing to do anything just so she could pay her debt.

With a new push of determination, she picked up the card dialing the number on it but there was no reply. She tried three more times but the phone was turned off at the third call.

"Maybe he's just busy" she sighed refusing to loose hope as she dropped the card. She glanced at her small cupboard picking out the most formal pair of clothes she could find. "This should do it" she said with a smile setting it down.

Her phone rang and she ran towards it with anticipation, only to realize it was a call from her best friend Anna. She pouted disappointed as she placed the phone on her ear.

"Hi" Bella breathed

"You don't sound happy to hear it's me" Anna commented. "Expecting someone else?" "N-no" she lied with a smile. "How's the restaurant?"

"It's still hell" Anna said making Bella laugh. "Mr Ben is still ask fierce as ever" she continued

"Yeah it is" she sighed lying down. "I just hope I can get a new job Soon" "With that look?" Anna scoffed. "Of course you will"

"Yeah I'm aiming for something high" she said finally deciding to tell Anna.

"High?" Anna asked confused. "Like a manager or?" She said and Bella laughed.

"No I'm being serious" she said sitting up. "I'm hoping to get a job at J &C"

"The J &C Cooperation??" Anna asked in disbelief. "No way girl. That's high"

"I know right" Bella breathed running a finger on Grey's card again. "Hopefully I can get in"

"Wow" Anna breathed after a few minutes of silence. "I wish you goodluck"

"Thanks" Anna replied ending the call. She really needed all the luck she could get for tomorrow.

Tomorrow was going to change her life. It had to.
