Upon completing my interview with Allure Magazine, I glanced at my phone to see a missed call from Jean. A wave of concern washed over me as I realized that William, who is usually punctual and reliable, had not contacted me.


I stood on the sidewalk and looked up and down the street. The unease in my chest was growing. My thoughts were consumed with how impressed everyone was with my interview and artwork, yet I wondered why William hadn't joined me yet. I thought about calling him, but the emotions of frustration and hurt made it hard to bring myself to do so. So, I waited, lost in thought, hoping the limo would arrive soon.


After much contemplation as to whether to call William or not, I made the decision to reach out to Jean instead and ask why he called. Maybe he would like to grab a bite to eat together and catch up.  


I took my phone from my purse and returned Jean's call.
