Those Eyes...

"Yes!" Joe Louise responded resolutely, without any hesitation.

Cynthia Shannon's heart tightened, as if it had been ruthlessly hammered, throbbing with intense pain.

Joe casually muttered a perfunctory "I'm sorry" and hastily left.

Cynthia stood in place, watching Joe's departing figure, feeling as if her heart had been cut open by a blunt knife, making it difficult to breathe.

A chill rose from her feet and swept through her limbs and body.

When Joe took over the Louise Family, the family was facing a financial crisis, on the verge of bankruptcy.

He had personally said that the company's current instability couldn't provide her with a stable future, but he promised to marry her once the company became stable.

For all these years, she had kept Joe's promise in her heart. She had worked tirelessly to make her family accept him, to marry him as soon as possible. She had used her own identity to help rise from obscurity to position of great promine, by strategizing and battling in the business world..

But little did she expect that after three years of being together day and night, she would be nothing more than a transaction in his eyes.

In this relationship, it seemed that she was the only one who had fallen in love from beginning to end!

All her efforts and sacrifices had become a joke when facing his first love.

Cynthia Shannon gritted her teeth, fighting back the tears in her eyes. But the tears flowed uncontrollably, like beads falling off a broken string, impossible to control.

The pain in her heart screamed wildly, causing her body to tremble involuntarily. Standing beside her, Yvonne Louise saw her miserable state and couldn't help but reveal a gloating smile. "Cynthia Shannon, if it weren't for your persistent pursuit, how could my brother agree to marry a woman like you, with no education or family background? Be sensible and leave the Louise Family quickly!"

Listening to Yvonne's shameless words, Cynthia felt her heart turn cold. "Have you forgotten that without me, there would be no Louise Corporation as it is now?"

"Don't spout nonsense here!" Yvonne pointed at Cynthia's nose, angrily saying, "Do you really think you're an important figure? Even without you, our Louise Corporation would still thrive!"

Cynthia's heart ached, realizing that this was how she was seen by the Louise Family.

"Enough! Let's leave it at that for today." Mrs. Louise, with an impatient expression, stood up and walked towards Cynthia. Disgust flickered in her eyes, as if she had encountered something repulsive. "Look at you now, you've embarrassed yourself. We, the Louise Family, can't afford to be associated with someone like you!"

After speaking, Mrs. Louise wore a perfectly timed smile and greeted the guests of the day.

Cynthia stood there, watching the guests leave in pairs, her long-awaited wedding turning into a complete farce. Why did her genuine efforts result in this? Was it simply because she had fallen in love with a man who didn't love her back?

Cynthia slowly closed her eyes, and tears rolled down from the corners of her eyes, fragile and helpless like weakened glass.

Half an hour later, Cynthia aimlessly walked on the desolate street, like a wandering soul without a place to belong.

Unknowingly, it started to rain, and the raindrops gradually turned into a heavy downpour.

She looked around but found no shelter from the rain except for the nearby bus stop, so she had to run there barefoot as fast as she could.

Unfortunately, misfortune never comes alone. A sharp stone cut Cynthia's sole, causing her to grimace in pain, clenching her teeth. She continued limping toward the bus stop.

Drip—

A piercing honk suddenly resounded through the quiet street.

Staring at the approaching car, Cynthia couldn't help but widen her eyes, and her pupils trembled intensely.
