Helpless Man

Cynthia Shannon was instantly speechless. She had known Joe Louise for three years, during which they had been together day and night. She had wholeheartedly helped him, accompanying him through difficult times and saving the sinking Louise Corporation from bankruptcy. She had witnessed him become the sought-after new money in San Heith. She had thought she knew Joe better than anyone, but despite that, all she got in the end was his unhesitant betrayal.

"The saying goes, 'knowing people by their appearance, but understanding them by their heart.' What you see is not the entirety, but intuition is the most accurate, as it affects a person's judgment," Tristan Ford's deep voice sounded calmly and steadily. "So, I believe in my own intuition."

Hearing his words, Cynthia couldn't help but smile. "I understand the concept of not judging by appearance but by heart. However, getting to know and understand a person often starts with their dressing style and eating habits, doesn't it? So, the basic understanding should come before intuition."

Tristan didn't intend to continue arguing about this matter with Cynthia. He smiled, seemingly compromising yet helpless. "Everyone has a different perspective, and I don't expect Miss. Shannon to agree with my view. I just hope you can understand that pursuing you is my own business, so please don't burden yourself with any psychological pressure."

Facing Tristan's persistence, Cynthia sighed helplessly. "Mr. Ford, I'm sorry, but I'm currently not considering any romantic involvement..."

"Miss. Shannon, first of all, pursuing you is my own business. Secondly, I have no ill intentions, and I don't need an immediate enthusiastic response from you," Tristan interrupted. "So, there's no need for you to apologize or feel any psychological burden."

After saying that,, he didn't give Cynthia a chance to refuse and turned to leave.

Cynthia stood in place, watching Tristan's tall and straight figure, feeling a mixture of anger and amusement. If Tristan had used "love at first sight" as an opening line or his previous assistance as an excuse, Cynthia could have confidently and decisively rejected him. However, this man was smart. He was being straightforward, completely frank, and not hiding his intentions.

This caught Cynthia off guard, leaving her powerless to defend herself. How could she remain indifferent in front of a genuine man like him?

When Cynthia was starving, Lily Jonas entered with her favorite dish from Pasta Bar, tortellini. She placed the food down and sat on the sofa, glancing at the men's suit beside it, her lips curling with a hint of undisguised disdain. "You said you were determined to leave him, so why keep this rag of his? Are you planning to go back on your decision?"

"It's not Joe's," Cynthia Shannon looked up at the suit jacket that Lily Jonas held with a touch of helplessness, thinking of the man she was powerless to resist. She couldn't help but sigh lightly. "It was left by the man who took me to the hospital yesterday."

Lily raised an eyebrow in surprise, her eyes gleaming with excitement as if she had caught a whiff of gossip. "Darling, you're clearly hiding something."

"What could I be hiding?" Cynthia's gaze flickered slightly, lowering her eyelids as she said calmly, "It's just a chance encounter, nothing more."

"If it's just a chance encounter, why are you feeling guilty?" Lily grinned with a mischievous look, looking at Cynthia.

"Tell me everything."
