Offending the Unseen

Long ago, Marlo Sharp had received favors from the Sweeney Family, so for years, he had covertly aided them.

At this moment, upon hearing Naomi Sweeney's words, he set down his chopsticks, wiped his lips deliberately, and lifted his gaze to Naomi.

“Naomi, to be frank, this turn of events is utterly abrupt. I had received the notice not two minutes ago, and your father was already taken away. I am scant on the specifics.”

Naomi, at his words, clenched the hand hidden beneath the table, her nails digging fiercely into her palm as she strained to maintain composure.

“Uncle Sharp, is there truly no room for reconciliation in this matter? I’m telling you the truth; since my father's apprehension, my mother has confined herself to her bed. I find myself at a loss for what to do.”

Despite her efforts to control her emotions, her speech still betrayed the turmoil within her heart.

“Naomi, has your family offended anyone recently?”
