Blind Eyes and Missing Minds

Seeing Fiona behind her, Naomi's eyes flashed with panic. She stiffly pulled at her lips and said, "Mrs. McNamara..."

"Bobby, what happened?" Ignoring Naomi, Fiona walked to the child and gently touched his cheek.

Her tone was gentle, devoid of the domineering presence she had just exhibited. Bobby showed no signs of distress; instead, he looked at Naomi with resentment. "This aunt lost her hairpin, and she happened to see me passing by the door, so she accused me of stealing."

Even though these children were young, their thoughts were remarkably mature, especially those who grew up in the orphanage. They were sensitive to the gravity of the word "steal" and understood Naomi's strong animosity towards them. Bobby, in particular, didn't hide his disdain.

At this moment, the principal looked at Naomi with a forced smile, "Miss Sweeney, perhaps these children don't have glamorous backgrounds, but their character is beyond doubt!"
