Posing and Pretending

From the first time Cynthia saw Ian, she felt an indescribable sense of depth, as if he were unfathomable.

On the surface, he seemed as gentle as jade, approachable even, but in reality, he was cold by nature.

Just like at this moment, he appeared to be one of the players in the game, yet everything was under his control.

"How is it? Disappointed?" Jacob's voice rang in her ear.

Cynthia turned her eyes toward him, a meaningful smile flickering in her eyes. "I never had much hope in the first place, so how could I be disappointed?"

As they were talking, Jacob's phone suddenly rang.

When he saw that it was his uncle, Donald, calling, he was slightly taken aback. After greeting Cynthia, he stood up and walked outside to answer the phone.

The hallway was quiet. He walked over to the leisure area by the fake mountain, sat down, crossed his legs, lit a cigarette, took a puff, and then answered the phone.
