Kade's Punishment -2

The veins on Kade's hand bulged, his fingers mere inches from yanking Seina from the pit of fire when she suddenly shoved him away. In that instant, he realized he couldn't save Kassie either.

His temples throbbed violently, each pulse a painful reminder of his failure. His nerves were taut as steel cables, coiled and ready to snap.

The familiar dread washed over him, as he braced himself for the agonizing cycle to begin anew.

However, something changed. The air in his vision stirred, and this time he saw Dorion, an innocent boy, smiling at him.

Kade approached him step by step, his breathing heavy. Though he could vaguely hear the distant roars of zombies, he ignored them, focusing solely on the boy before him.

His brain buzzed at the notion that he could not control his body at all, unlike earlier, when he could run after his mother and little Kassie.
