If It Were You, Would You Abandon Me?

Zhouzhou nodded and followed along. When she returned to the break room after finishing her tasks, she found everyone's faces devoid of smiles. Dr. Wang's bed had already been taken by someone else, and his belongings were on the table--just a phone and a wallet. Zhouzhou recognized the wallet; he had shown her the pictures inside, which featured him and his wife.

Dr. Wang's death had hit everyone hard. He was a comrade who shared meals and living quarters with them, now fallen. Everyone was reminded of their own mortality, contemplating when they too might lie beneath a white cloth--perhaps tomorrow, or even in the next moment.

Zhouzhou felt a wave of depression wash over her. After a few seconds, she suddenly grabbed her phone and dashed outside. It was night; the patients were temporarily stabilized, and the doctors could finally get some rest.
