“But...”
“I’ll change,” Han Chen interrupted in a solemn tone. “According to your requirements.”
Damn it, Zhou Mo regretted it. She was infuriatingly soft-hearted.
“We should still be rational. Marriage is not a joke...”
“Are you regret?” Han Chen asked.
Zhou Mo hesitated for a moment. “Yes.”
“Are you sure you won’t give me a chance?”
Zhou Mo was puzzled. What did he mean by that?
Before she could understand, Han Chen bent down, went to the second bedroom, and took out his phone. He opened the photo album and spread it out in front of Zhou Mo.
Zhou Mo glanced at it and instantly felt a chill run down her spine. She looked at Han Chen warily. “What... do you mean?”
Han Chen retrieved his phone. “In the photos, I know the man across from you. I also know what you sold to him. If your parents were to find out about these things...”
Zhou Mo self-mockingly chuckled a few times. “I really let the wolf into the house and brought this upon myself. If I don’t agree to marry you, will you tell my parents about this?”
“Yes,” came his succinct reply.
Zhou Mo cursed under her breath. She wished they were having this conversation over the phone so she could unleash a torrent of expletives at him.
This man was indeed different.
He was courteous first and then launched his attack, step by step.
In this situation, what else could she do besides surrender?
“Tomorrow morning at ten, we’ll register,” Zhou Mo gritted her teeth.
Han Chen smirked with satisfaction. “Don’t be in a rush. Let’s do it in the afternoon. I have something to do in the morning.”
Zhou Mo exploded with anger.
He was the one who proposed marriage, but now it seemed like she was the one in a hurry.
Han Chen explained seriously, “I have to take a leave of absence.”
Zhou Mo rolled her eyes at him. He made it seem like she had nothing better to do.
Han Chen reminded her, “What about your Household Register? Do you need to go home and get it?”
Zhou Mo retorted, “You don’t need to worry about it.”
The next afternoon.
It was sunny.
Zhou Mo was in a miserable state.
Her secret had been discovered by Han Chen.
And now, Han Chen had her in his grasp.
Under his “tyranny“, they went to obtain their marriage certificate.
How could this man, who lived like a primitive organism, suddenly become capable of threatening others?
Zhou Mo gritted her teeth.
The two of them walked out of the Civil Affairs Bureau.
Zhou Mo wore a defeated expression.
Han Chen’s face was relaxed.
“See you tomorrow,” Zhou Mo forced a smile, with a mix of hypocrisy and impatience, secretly hoping that tomorrow wouldn’t come.
“I’ll drive you,” Han Chen took out his car keys.
A BMW 5 Series, not far away, honked twice.
Zhou Mo was completely dumbfounded.
When Han Chen mentioned marriage last night, he said he had a car. Little did she know that it was this kind of car.
“Do doctors make this much money now?” Zhou Mo asked.
Han Chen didn’t understand.
Zhou Mo gestured towards the car. She didn’t know much about cars, but she had heard her ex, who broke his leg, mention that this car was the new model this year, costing around five hundred thousand. The body was a carbon black color with a hint of blue, and under the sunlight, the entire car seemed to be a gradient of black and blue, very eye-catching.
“Oh, it’s a gift,” Han Chen said casually.
Zhou Mo secretly scoffed and waved her hand at him. “I’m leaving.”
“Where are you going?”
“To the hospital.”
“Which hospital?”
“Dongjiang University Hospital.“
“I’m going to the same hospital.”
Zhou Mo’s eyes widened. “You work at Dongjiang University Hospital?”
“Instead, where else?” Han Chen looked at her as if she were an idiot.
Zhou Mo smacked her forehead. Dongjiang University Hospital was the top-ranked comprehensive tertiary hospital in Dongjiang. Where else could someone like him work if not there?
Before the car reached the entrance of the hospital, Zhou Mo hurriedly said, “Just stop here.”
Han Chen stopped the car and furrowed his brow. “Are you afraid of running into my colleagues?”
Zhou Mo was caught off guard, and her face turned red. “How could that be? I’m just afraid you’ll be embarrassed.”
Han Chen remained noncommittal, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
“See you again!” Zhou Mo opened the door and got out of the car.
“Yes, sure,” Han Chen replied.
Zhou Mo furrowed her brows, puzzled. What did he mean by “sure“? It sounded strange.
Without thinking too much, Zhou Mo briskly walked toward the hospital.
Dongjiang University Hospital, also known as the First Affiliated Hospital of Dongjiang University, was renowned for its surgery department. The most famous specialties included cardiovascular surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, as well as the newly established hepatobiliary surgery and urology.
Her ex-boyfriend with a broken leg was in the orthopedics department at Dongjiang University Hospital.
As soon as Zhou Mo entered the ward, she saw Yu Yizhou, with his leg in a cast, hanging in the air. There was a young nurse standing beside his bed, and they were chatting and laughing.
Yu Yizhou said, “When I’m discharged, I’ll take you out. I’ll drive my Porsche.”
The young nurse blushed coyly, seemingly skeptical of his words. She teased, “You should focus on your health first.”
Yu Yizhou said, “Don’t doubt me... I...”
He was about to continue speaking but noticed a familiar figure standing at the door, immediately becoming alert.
“What are you here for?” Yu Yizhou asked.
Zhou Mo walked in confidently and didn’t mince words. “Let’s discuss the compensation plan.”
Yu Yizhou leaned back against the pillow, a hint of disdain in his eyes. “You finally remembered to compensate me? Look at my leg. If it’s not two or three hundred thousand, don’t even think about settling.”
Then, his eyes shifted mischievously. “Why don’t you stay with me and continue being my girlfriend? Take care of me until my leg fully recovers.”
Zhou Mo sneered. “You used my ID card to register a company without my consent, and I didn’t call the police. And now you want to extort money from me?”
“You think you can prove that I used your ID card to register a company? Look, my leg is broken, and I’m lying in the hospital. That’s a fact, isn’t it? On the other hand, your family caused me to end up like this. The neighbors and people around can all testify,” Yu Yizhou wore a smug expression. “I have a good mood today. Give you a chance, tell me, how much can you compensate me?”
“Blackmail me? Dream on! There are so many links in registering a company, I didn’t participate in the whole process, if I find out that your operation is full of loopholes, you still calculate how much you can compensate me, if I am not satisfied, then we will see you at the police station.
“Fine, go ahead and gather evidence. I’ll wait. After all, your father is the one who broke my leg intentionally. I’ll sue him for intentional harm. Don’t blame me when he ends up in prison.”
Zhou Mo was infuriated, her fists clenched.
She truly regretted being with Yu Yizhou in the first place.
“If you don’t have money, then do as I say. Take good care of…”
“Mr. Yu,” the young nurse suddenly interrupted, “Dr. Han is here.”
At the door.
Han Chen wore a clean and neat white coat, his broad shoulders filling it out, and his slim waist complementing the coat’s tailored fit, creating an attractive figure from top to bottom.
Zhou Mo looked at the person at the door with a shocked expression.
Han Chen’s gaze inadvertently swept over Zhou Mo’s shocked face and then automatically ignored her. He turned to Yu Yizhou expressionlessly and asked, “How are you feeling?”
“I’m doing fine. The orthopedics department at Dongjiang University Hospital is truly remarkable!” Yu Yizhou smiled and said, “Dr. Han, I still have the same request. Use whatever the best option is, regardless of the cost. Some people will foot the bill.”
As he spoke, he discreetly glanced at Zhou Mo.
“An advanced and expensive prosthetic limb, would you like to use it?” Han Chen’s voice turned cold as he glanced at Yu Yizhou.
Yu Yizhou froze.
Han Chen’s tone was stern as he urged, “Move your foot slightly. I’ll examine it.”
“Sure,” Yu Yizhou no longer had the smug smile on his face. He relied on the person in front of him to treat his leg, so naturally, he didn’t dare to offend him.
