Give It a Try

Han Chen continued suturing Xu Qingli's wound with a light and graceful touch, seemingly unaffected by Zhou Mo's presence. Xu Qingli furrowed his brows and instinctively dodged, causing him to stop the procedure.

The nurse holding the tray of medical supplies spoke up, "Dr. Xu, Dr. Han has the lightest touch in our department. If you can't handle it, no one else can suture your wound."

Blushing, Xu Qingli glanced at Han Chen and shyly replied, "I... can endure it."

"Look up," Han Chen said expressionlessly.

Xu Qingli tilted his head back and averted his gaze, unable to look straight ahead.

Han Chen deftly and efficiently sutured several stitches, ignoring Xu Qingli's murmurs of pain.

Once he finished, Han Chen took off his gloves and threw them into the yellow waste bin.

Xu Qingli was taken aback. "What about the gauze? Aren't you going to apply it?"

Han Chen glanced at the nurse beside him and instructed, "Apply some gauze."

The nurse promptly stepped forward to do as instructed.

Han Chen turned and left.

"Where are you going?" Xu Qingli suddenly asked.

"To the hospital room," Han Chen replied, walking out of the conference room. As he passed Zhou Mo, he faintly commented, "Turns out it wasn't so difficult to see you again."

Zhou Mo was completely puzzled by his words.

What did he mean?

The police officer who noticed the exchange said, "The patient was agitated and made some exaggerated movements. We're currently reapplying the cast. Dr. Han is going to check on him, so let's first assess Dr. Xu's condition."

Zhou Mo nodded and turned to face Xu Qingli. She glanced at his wound and asked, "Did Yu Yizhou do this?"

"No, he smashed a vase against the wall, and the shards cut me," Xu Qingli replied, his face red with embarrassment.

Zhou Mo took out a piece of paper and a pen from her bag and wrote down two sets of numbers, two copies each. She handed one copy to Xu Qingli and the other to the police officer.

"These are Yu Yizhou's parents' phone numbers. They're both currently on the list of debtors. I'm not sure if they've changed their numbers, but you can give it a try. If you want compensation, accountability, or debt recovery, you can only go after them. Yu Yizhou is burdened with debts and impossible to reach."

It seemed that Yu Yizhou didn't want to give out his parents' contact information, so he resorted to pestering Zhou Mo to vouch for him.

The police officer dialed the two phone numbers on the paper, but both calls were answered and then immediately hung up.

"Do you need any further cooperation from me?" Zhou Mo asked proactively.

The police officer said, "Yu Yizhou still owes the hospital for his medical expenses..."

"I have no connection with him, and it's impossible for me to cover his expenses," Zhou Mo firmly stated her position.

The police officer said, "Your father caused his injuries, so technically, you should be responsible for compensation."

"In that case, we'll wait for the court's judgment, and we'll pay whatever amount is decided. After the court ruling, we can discuss compensation," Zhou Mo replied with conviction.

The police officer was exasperated. "If you pay now, perhaps you can settle things with him and reduce the amount you have to pay."

"We can't settle. Once the court ruling is issued, I'll accept whatever compensation is determined," Zhou Mo insisted.

The police officer sighed in resignation. "Then I'll try to contact his parents."

"When negotiating with them, remember to quote a higher amount. His parents are good at bargaining," Zhou Mo advised.

The police officer made the phone call, looking somewhat perplexed at Zhou Mo.

Zhou Mo explained, "I met his parents once before. Before discussing marriage, they promised a dowry of three million. But before I could say a word, they reduced it to three hundred thousand, with additional conditions that I contribute more money to buy a foreclosed house from their family before we could get married."

The police officer suddenly felt sympathetic towards Zhou Mo. "Even though he's like this, you didn't break up with him at the time?"

"People's hearts are inherently good. His parents are his parents, not him. I couldn't condemn them all together. At that time, I didn't know his parents were debtors or that the house they wanted me to buy was a foreclosed property from their family. He accidentally revealed it later. Besides... I wasn't thinking about marriage at that time," Zhou Mo explained.

The police officer nodded. "Would you like to go and see him?"

"No, I came here today solely to cooperate with your work," Zhou Mo firmly declined.

Zhou Mo turned her head and looked at Xu Qingli. "Dr. Xu, despite Yu Yizhou's tough exterior and fierce temper, he's actually quite timid and easily intimidated. If he dares to throw a tantrum again, you can assert yourself and scold him a bit. He'll become obedient."

Xu Qingli blinked in confusion. "Thank you."

Zhou Mo turned to the police officer and asked, "Can I leave now?"

"Sure, you can go," the police officer nodded.

As Zhou Mo exited the conference room, she almost collided with Han Chen, who was returning from the hospital room. Their eyes met, but neither of them greeted each other. Zhou Mo caught a glimpse of Han Chen's cold and icy face, feeling a deep sense of aversion as if she didn't recognize him. She turned her head and walked past him.

However, just as she passed by Han Chen, she felt a sudden force on her wrist.

"Come with me. I have something to ask you," Han Chen said without hesitation, dragging Zhou Mo away in front of everyone's eyes.

Zhou Mo stumbled as she was dragged into the adjacent large conference room.

Once inside, Han Chen released his grip on Zhou Mo and closed the door behind him.

"You came over as soon as something happened to Yu Yizhou. If I had known it would be so easy to see you, I should have disabled his leg myself," Han Chen said, his tone full of bitterness.

Rubbing her wrist, Zhou Mo glared at Han Chen. "That's perfect then. If you disable his leg, he'll report you and get your medical license revoked. I would be more than happy to see that happen."

A flicker of anger ignited in Han Chen's dark eyes.

"Do you still want to pursue your lawsuit?" he asked.

"Yes, why wouldn't I?" Zhou Mo retorted, observing Han Chen. "If you want to collaborate with Liang Dongyan and refuse to take my case, that's fine. I'll find another lawyer."

Han Chen's eyes grew fierce, and his voice turned menacing. "What if no one in Dongjiang is willing to take your case?"

Zhou Mo found it amusing to hear his words. "Do you, a small doctor, have such power?"

Han Chen sneered. "Whether I have power or not, you can find out if you try."

"Give it a try then," Zhou Mo chalLianged without showing any weakness.

She took out her phone and dialed a number, calling Fang Shuo directly. "Mr. Fang, please tell Mr. Liang that I no longer need him to represent me in my case."

Without waiting for Fang Shuo's response, Zhou Mo hung up the phone.

With her clear eyes meeting Han Chen's stern gaze, Zhou Mo smiled coquettishly and said, "I've withdrawn. The next move is up to you."

Han Chen furrowed his brows. "Are you serious?"

Zhou Mo provocatively replied, "Of course. Do you think I'm joking with you?"

"Don't regret it," Han Chen warned.

"I won't," Zhou Mo stated confidently.

"If you ever come to beg me in the future, I won't show mercy," Han Chen declared.

"In that case, you need to be able to make me beg you first," Zhou Mo retorted.

A self-satisfied yet icy smile appeared on Han Chen's lips. He slowly approached Zhou Mo, leaning close to her ear, and whispered in a low voice, "If you want to beg me, you have to let me handle it as I see fit."

A dangerous and scorching breath caused half of Zhou Mo's face to flush red. She pretended to remain calm. "Alright, we'll see who's afraid of whom."

She didn't believe that Han Chen, just a doctor, could dictate the actions of all the lawyers in Dongjiang.

However, she also had a backup plan and added, "There's one condition. You can't let Liang Dongyan get involved and sabotage things behind the scenes."

"Alright," Han Chen's lips curled into a victorious yet chilling smile.

"In that case, what should I do if I need to find a lawyer?" Zhou Mo didn't forget to secure her own interests.
