The Sad Childhood of the Snake Cub

“Ah, ah—” A woman's agonized cry tore through the silence of the night.

In the damp and gloomy cave, a female lay collapsed on the ground, her body covered in blood. Beneath her were a dozen bloodied and viscous snake eggs.

Beside her, the lower half of a man's body had transformed into a black snake tail. He cradled the dozen snake eggs in his arms, then lowered his gaze to the woman on the ground.

His thin lips uttered her name softly, “A’ye...”

The woman didn't respond, or perhaps she lacked the strength to do so. She merely glared at him with intense hatred.

Before her lay the wretched wanderer who had abducted her from the tribe and killed her other mates.

Her lips twitched, and even without making a sound, the man understood what she wanted to say.
