Alpha Harlan carried Elara out of his secret room. She was unconscious in his arms, her face pale. At the entrance stood Alpha Vesper, his expression unreadable. Alpha Harlan ignored him.
His focus slipped down to her cheek. She gently squeezed his hand, reassuring him that she was there, that she understood.
Elara shook her head, stepping closer to wrap her arms around him. He leaned into her embrace, drawing strength from her support.
"You don't have to hide from me," she said softly. "We'll face this together." Her words gave him a sense of hope, a belief that perhaps he didn't have to battle his nature alone. He nodded, feeling her heartbeat against his chest, steady and reassuring.
