Chapter 292 - For Their Master
In the Occult Research Club, alongside its regular members, Jeanne was also present.
As Rias and Mahiro entered, all eyes turned to them.
Akeno's teasing remark made Rias falter, her mind flashing to the moment with Mahiro in the equipment room.
A faint blush colored her cheeks.
She shot Akeno a subtle glare before regaining her composure.
Striding into the clubroom with poise, Rias lightly tossed her long hair and asked with a casual smile, "Akeno, how did things go with brother?"
Unfazed by Rias's gaze, Akeno chuckled.
"Sirzechs-sama and the others were very pleased with Kuoh Academy's operations."
"After their visit, they returned to the Underworld."
"Sirzechs and your father didn't see you, which seems to have disappointed them," she continued.
"They wanted to find you, but when they heard Mahiro-kun was back and with you, they let it go."
"Still, they're already looking forward to the next Class Observation Day."
"They're gone? Good," Rias said, exhaling in relief.
She felt a wave of gratitude for dodging that bullet.
As for the next Class Observation Day, she'd deal with it when the time came.
"But there's one more thing," Akeno added.
"Sirzechs-sama said he'll return tonight."
"Tonight?" Rias asked, her brow furrowing.
"Did he say why?"
"No," Akeno said, shaking her head.
"But if a Maou is coming back at night, it's likely something important."
"Fine, we'll see tonight," Rias said, settling at her desk with a sigh.
"I just hope it's not a big deal."
Koneko, as usual, sat quietly on the sofa, munching on snacks.
Spotting Mahiro, she patted the seat beside her, her stoic expression fixed on him, silently inviting him to sit.
Mahiro smiled and took the spot.
Koneko nudged her snack pile toward him, a small gesture of welcome.
"Thanks, Koneko-chan," Mahiro said, helping himself without hesitation.
"Oh, is Koneko-chan making her move now?" Akeno said, feigning reproach.
"I'm falling behind. I should take notes from her."
"Senpai's already plenty bold," Koneko replied calmly.
"I'm just welcoming Mahiro back."
"Boldness is necessary," Akeno said with a mock sigh.
"If I don't step up, I might lose my spot as number two."
"Then I won't lag behind!"
Asia declared, wrapping her arms around Mahiro's neck from behind, leaning her weight against him.
"I'm Mahiro-kun's number one lover!"
"I'll settle for number two, then," Xenovia said solemnly, shifting closer to Asia.
"But I call dibs on sleeping over tonight."
"No way!" Asia shot back, glaring at Xenovia.
"What about me?" Irina asked, caught in a dilemma.
As part of the church trio, she felt pressured to join in, lest she seem out of place.
"Are all you Devils this wild?"
Jeanne interjected, unable to hold back her incredulity.
As a hero, she was accustomed to discussions of strength, surpassing everyone, or challenging stronger foes—not this flurry of romantic rivalry.
A heated debate might lead to a spar, not… this.
Her words drew the girls' sharp gazes, their collective intensity making Jeanne flinch.
"I mean, shouldn't we be asking about Mahiro's training progress?"
Jeanne said with a nervous laugh, trying to redirect the conversation.
"That's a fair point. Well said, descendant of a saint," Xenovia said, nodding with earnest approval, her seriousness almost comical.
"I've heard stronger fathers produce stronger offspring."
"Mahiro, how about we make a child tonight?"
"Don't treat me like a breeding machine," Mahiro said, exasperated.
"Being a full-time mom after graduation doesn't sound bad," Akeno mused with a smile.
"But since you're all still students, leave that to me. I'm old enough."
"No!" Asia protested, clutching Mahiro tighter.
"Akeno-senpai's being sneaky, using her age to get ahead. That's unfair!"
"I'm with Asia," Xenovia said, nodding.
"It shouldn't matter who graduates first."
"Old? Who's old?" Akeno said, her smile turning dangerous.
Asia shrank back, gripping Mahiro's arm.
Seeing the tension shift, Jeanne exhaled in relief.
"Enough, you're all getting off track," Rias said, rubbing her temples in frustration.
Her position as Mahiro's fiancée hadn't even been fully asserted, yet her peers were already bickering over children?
It was absurd.
"Rias is right," Jeanne said, quick to back her up.
"I'm curious, too," Kiba added, speaking up with a smile.
"It's been a while since I sparred with Mahiro-san. I've been training hard lately and would love a rematch."
Kiba's challenge referred to a friendly duel without Sacred Gears.
He knew Mahiro's Longinus was too overpowering otherwise.
Mahiro met Kiba's eager gaze with a confident grin.
"I'm looking forward to it, but don't expect the outcome to change."
"Speaking of training, I picked up something interesting this time," Mahiro said, producing a strange card that shimmered with an otherworldly glow.
It was a reward from completing a main quest in Danmachi world: a Level-up Card.
"What's that?" Rias asked, her curiosity piqued as everyone's attention shifted to the card.
"A one-use item that boosts strength," Mahiro explained.
"It can permanently elevate someone to the level of an Ultimate-Class."
"What?!" Rias, Akeno, and the others gasped, stunned.
A single-use item capable of granting Ultimate-Class strength was, in some ways, rarer and more practical than a Longinus.
The room buzzed with excitement.
The members exchanged glances, silently reaching a consensus.
Akeno spoke first, smiling. "It's obviously for our master."
"Rias-senpai should have it," Koneko said, nodding.
"President's strength is our priority," Kiba agreed.
Asia, Xenovia, and Irina voiced no objections.
Jeanne's opinion, as an outsider, was overlooked.
Mahiro had anticipated this.
In DxD, loyalty to one's master was paramount, and Rias, as their master, was the natural choice.
[A/N: I Forgot to add this reward in previous chapters.]
