"You think you will be able to get away, Young Master Bayer?"
A soft male voice broke through the loud noises of clashes as if being spoken right next to one's ears.
"Haah... Haah..."
A black-haired man stood straight, slightly panting with four men surrounding him as he turned to look at the source of the voice.
"So, it's you..."
He softly said, unafraid of the ones surrounding him, as he recognised the one who had spoken.
"Is Adrian that pathetic to have sent you?"
The black-haired man taunted with a subtle, condescending smile on purpose to get a reaction out of the one who had broken the combat and he succeeded, easily at that.
"You! How dare you! How dare the likes of you! Young Master Adri–"
The black-haired man interrupted his words once again to raise the other person's anger as he mocked his stupidity.
"You think killing me would make him the heir?"
"Hahahahahahahahaha"
"How stupid must one be to believe that?" He said while wiping away the small tear at the corner of his eye while a smile graced his handsome yet bloody face. His smile, however, was filled with condescension as if he didn't even take the likes of them at the same level as himself.
He continued without pause, "He is an Evans. Evans! Not a Bayer! Also, did you forget I have siblings too?"
The black-haired man had been calm since the start, it wasn't his first assassination attempt, after all. He had faced several since childhood, and survived till date because of his unique characteristics.
"You...! Trash like you dares!"
The man opposite him sporting brown hair and green eyes had veins throbbing on his forehead as he shouted at his four subordinates.
"You fools! Why did you stop? Attack him! Finish him! Or do you want to end up like the other four here?"
Without wasting a second they attacked the black-haired man while thinking something completely different. 'You think we don't know you? If we hadn't stopped, you'd have killed us, idiot!'
Their cursing and facial expressions aside, they were going full force to kill the black-haired man who remained nonchalant about the situation despite the disparity in numbers.
'Heh. Got him riled up. This is gonna be easy,' observed the black-haired man surnamed Bayer as he lifted the iron sword in his hand and feigned an attack.
Bang
Puchak
Instead, he used his magic gun to blast off the head of the one nearest to him.
Despite the blood, the gray brain matter, and bone powder drowning his form, he remained calm, not the slightest twitch in his facial expression as if he had not just killed someone by blasting their head off.
He had seen this scene one too many times that it didn't elicit any emotions from him, he got used to it after...
Tch
"What an irritating memory," mumbled the black-haired man while clicking his tongue, preventing him from going on a trip down memory lane, as he threw the magic gun away.
'The ammo ran out, carrying it will only slow my movements.'
Despite one of them dying, the other three assailants didn't stop and continued to pursue him even more fervently because the brown-haired and green-eyed man was much more scary to them.
'What a showoff. Wearing embroidered suit jackets and whatnot to show off that he has some wealth when it actually isn't even his.'
'Adrian, such a bad choice for an underling.'
Even while the fight was going on with the three attacking him, he retaliated strongly. But his attention never left the man who stood back and calmly watched everything transpire, which resulted in him showing gaps and getting some light injuries.
'I can't expect to come out unscathed when I had eight, no, nine assailants targeting me.' He quickly adjusted himself by accepting the situation as that would be favorable to him over lamenting at the unfairness.
His eyes darted around to observe the three he was fighting currently while still being cautious about the observing guy.
One of them with a lean physique used his longer limbs to their fullest while using martial arts to attack him.
The second one used a sharp slanted dagger to sneak in an attack or two but all of them got parried effortlessly by the black-haired man.
The third one used an axe with a wooden handle and steel blade that chipped away at the iron sword of the black-haired man.
Due to the fight growing more intense, the black-haired man couldn't help but turn to look at the fourth person who just stood there, but could decide to ambush him anytime.
"Hah! Where are you looking?"
The axe-wielder shouted at the top of his lungs before he swung downward to cleave the man apart.
Whoosh

His axe met nothing but air, while his chest had a gaping wound as he fell down after failing the attack and not even seeing himself getting attacked.
"Impossible... Im...poss...ible..."
Gurgle
In the blink of an eye, the axe-wielder had his heart pierced by the sudden stab of the shabby sword, which was retracted by the b;ack-haired man right after piercing his heart.
The black-haired man ignored the last words of the axe-wielder he killed as he twisted his toes to move and dodge a kick at the last moment before he had to parry the dagger with his bloody sword.
A soft smile tugged at his lips, easily noticeable by both men attacking him as they understood what that implied. 'This bastard! He planned it all along!'
'A bunch of fools.'
Without thinking twice, he backstepped and moved further back to get some distance while taking out a short crossbow and firing at them to use its reaction force to get more momentum . He was willing to use the slightest advantage that he could to increase the distance and get a second of respite as he too was a human and didn't have infinite stamina or something.
Whoosh
Naturally, he missed because he didn't have any proper footing and the close distance didn't help much either as they could just move out of the way while looking at the crossbow.
But his action had been planned, as he gained the required distance for a momentary respite.
Alas, it wasn't meant to be.
"You didn't forget I was here, did you?"
The soft voice of the brown-haired man jolted him out of his respite as he calmly deflected the spear's attack.
"Of course, how can I forget the leashed dog?"
His words along with his annoying smile enraged the spearman, who gritted his teeth and continuously attacked him.
The other two stopped to regain their energy until they were called upon to assist, or else they might just suffer meaninglessly.
"Let those two fight, if he wins, we will just have to praise him, or we will just kill Juder Bayer before escaping," whispered the dagger wielder in the ears of the martial artists, who looked at him in disgust, but ultimately agreed.
Meanwhile, just a few minutes of walking away from this dangerous battle, a female with dirty unkempt hair mixed with all kinds of blood moved around, looking at the map, unaware of what she was going to inadvertently step into.
'The map was like a hidden feature in and of itself because you need to make a wild guess or know of it. What a weird thing,' mused the girl as she had nothing better to do at the moment.
"Ugh. I hate all this walking!"
The female whined like a little child throwing a tantrum while checking the map every other minute impatiently to make sure she didn't miss her destination.
"Cordelia, it seems it's your fate to be annoyed even in this life."
She mumbled in complaint to nobody in particular as she continued her journey, only to stop when she heard some noises in the distance, causing her to frown.
'Hmm? What are these noises? Was someone supposed to be here? Or did someone get this one in the past or future?'
Cordelia contemplated for a moment before she decided to take a look.
'Not like I know everything that happened in the novel. Hell, I don't even know what phase of the novel I am in?'
Ba...dum Ba...dum
Her heart beat wildly in anticipation of finding the one behind the commotion as it could be a major clue for her to plan out her next move.
'I don't know if they will have malicious intentions towards me, I should be careful.'
Cordelia reminded herself as she carefully walked in the woods, nearing the sounds of battle and her heart rate exploded the more she pressed on.
Ba...dum Ba...dum
When she almost reached the closest spot to be able to look at what's happening, a horrifying explosion sounded, deafening her and its intense light blinding her, prohibiting her from looking at the scene for a few seconds.
Boom
