Chapter 3 Leveling(1)

After grabbing some stuff from his home, Alex left the city through a opening in the wall. After leaving the city Alex headed for the forest nearby, where there were plenty of weak mana beasts and monsters he could kill to level up. Thirty years ago, at the beginning of the Era of Reckoning the earth's core was saturated with mana causing the planet to start producing mana but that came with it's own set of consequences. Due to the mana being produced at a constant rate all the living organisms on the planet started absorbing and adapting to it. Animals mutated and became mana beasts, powerful creatures that can use mana to attack, and the plants mutated as well some became sentient while others had there medicinal properties enhanced. Due to this some of the trees in the forest gave off a sort of glow at night.

" Any way where can I find some monsters." After entering around 100 meters into the forest Alex started to hear rustling noises. Summoning [Silver Raptor], as the sword appeared amidst a shower of sparks Alex inched closer towards the noise. Reaching closer he saw his first pray, a mana beast that looked like a deer. It hard large metallic horns, brown fur and red angry eyes that looked like hot flames.

' Okay I'm ready for this.' Alex repeated in his head over and over again. After hyping himself up Alex picked up a stone off the ground and threw it in the direction of the deer. The stone landed away from the deer causing it to face in the opposite direction to Alex, jumping out from the bushes Alex slashed down onto the beast causing a deep wound on the side of the beast.

' Oh come on.' Alex thought as the beast turned around staring at him with hate filled eyes before charging at him with it's metallic horns glinting in the moonlight. Luckily for Alex he managed to roll out of the way in time.

' Hold on a minute is it's wound...healing.' Alex thought as he stared closely at the deer's wound and indeed it was closing albeit at a very slow rate but healing all the same.

' Think I need to kill it in one shot.' Alex thought but he was out of time as the deer turned around and charged at him again almost skewering him and he could have sworn that the beast has gotten faster and it's eyes were blazing red. Then like a lightning bolt Alex remembered that he could channel mana through objects and a certain enchantment of [Silver Raptor].

'Sharpen.' Suddenly the blade took on a bluish white hue. Turning around facing the beast Alex stared into it's red blazing eyes and shivered but held his sword firm in his hand. Staring at each other in silence, both suddenly charged at each other one brandishing his sword the other it's metallic horn.

[You have slain an F rank mana beast, berserk deer. You have gained 100 exp.]

Alex prevailed with his sword embedded in the skull of the beast, it's eyes devoid of life.

[Congratulations you have earned your first level. As a reward you have been given the skill[ Mana Sense].]

Tired Alex dismissed his sword as he walked back to the the edge of the forest where he had left his stuff as he lay on the ground and fell asleep.

Feeling the sun on his face Alex woke up feeling energized. With a yawn he pulled out a piece of dried meat and hard bread he packed yesterday. After breakfast he decided to check his status.

'Mana Sense. What's that?' Alex wondered but like always the system provided an explanation.

[Mana Sense: A passive ability that allows you to detect the mana in the surrounding.]

' Ok but I don't feel anything.' Alex thought to himself. Shrugging his shoulder Alex decided to set up his green tent in a camouflaged position and arrange his stuff. After finishing all that Alex decided to head back to where he killed the berserk deer and as he entered it he could feel a slight sensation on his skin that only grew stronger as he went deeper into the forest. He soon realized that he was feeling the mana inside the forest. As he reached his destination he saw the corpse of the deer as well as a twin tailed fox chowing down on it's flesh.

' Here we go again.'
