Chapter thirty-four: That makes me mad

Camilla gazed at Orpheus, her eyes searching for answers in his troubled expression. "So why can't a human be your mate?" she inquired softly, her voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of longing.

Orpheus hesitated, his gaze momentarily distant as if grappling with a difficult decision. "Because anyone who surrounds me is in danger," he finally replied, his tone heavy with resignation. "You can't protect yourself from the supernatural forces that are against me."

A determined glint sparkled in Camilla's eyes as she leaned in closer, her voice unwavering. "Then teach me how to protect myself," she insisted, her resolve unwavering.

"First, you need to recover before we discuss that," Orpheus responded gently, a hint of concern in his voice. He made a move to leave, but Camilla reached out, her hand grasping his arm, a silent plea in her touch.
