Chapter sixty-nine: riddles

The Beast of Questions loomed before them, its form writhing like liquid shadow, never settling into a single shape for more than a heartbeat. Its voice slithered through the air, heavy with ancient power.

"You have entered the Forgotten Vale, where knowledge is both key and curse. Answer my riddles, and you may proceed. Fail, and the void shall claim you."

The air around them crackled with energy. The group hesitated, but Lydia stepped forward first, her expression unreadable.

"Very well," she said. "Ask your riddles, Beast."

The creature's eyes flared brighter. "The first riddle is for you, mortal girl," it rumbled, its words vibrating through the air like distant thunder. "I have been waiting for you."

Camilla swallowed hard. A chill ran down her spine, though she held her ground. "Me?" she echoed, glancing at Lydia, who, for once, had no clever remark to offer.
