Chapter 70: Head-on Confrontation with the Na'vi_1

"This thing has six legs; who would have thought it could run so fast and even climb trees?"

Liu Peiqiang observed the Kui Snake Wolf pack they had just destroyed with great interest. These creatures looked like wolves from Earth but had six legs, and what was key was that they ran with remarkable steadiness and agility.

This was incredibly new to War Wolf Squad, who were used to seeing creatures run on four legs. The novelty was as surprising as the day Hu Ge, who had never mentioned marriage, suddenly posted on Weibo to announce he was going to be a father and already had a daughter.

A teammate crouched down carefully, gingerly collected a bit of Kui Snake Wolf tissue, and placed it into a bottle. He then took comprehensive photos. All of this was precious information for their exploration of this alien planet.

It might well be.

This could be their new home!

"It's hard to imagine..."

One of the team members shook his head as he looked at the Kui Snake Wolf's large body, "The wolves here are so big, twice the size of Earth's lions, and with six legs, they run incredibly fast and can climb trees. Plus, their fur is black. If someone were out here in the middle of the night taking care of business, wouldn't they be scared enough to wet their pants if they encountered one?"

A question.

What would you do if, while relieving yourself in the jungle, you suddenly came face-to-face with a Siberian tiger?

Do you finish up? Pull up your pants first? Or go in for a sliding tackle?

Actually, there's not much difference.

You'd only live a few seconds longer at most.

Liu Peiqiang nodded thoughtfully, "The creatures on this planet are so huge; it's hard to imagine how humanity survived here..."

He really couldn't fathom it.

How humans, being of roughly the same size as those they had previously detected, managed to survive among these vast and nimble beasts, and even became the ultimate rulers of the planet.

What an immense effort that must have taken!

"Captain, there might be an issue," a teammate furrowed his brow. "We've arrived on a planet with an exceptionally high oxygen content, full of giant life forms. Not to mention the plants and animals, but even the wolves have six legs. How come there are humans that look exactly like us?"

As soon as he spoke.

The entire squad glanced at each other, completely stumped by the question. One ironclad man after another couldn't help but scratch their heads as if they were back in childhood, with the math teacher tapping on the blackboard, asking them a question.

It really didn't make any sense!

Certainly, the environmental conditions of survival had changed, and all creatures had evolved. So why hadn't the appearance of humans changed?

Did evolution forget about humanity?

That's not right!

Humans are also primates. Push back fifty thousand years, and we share the same ancestor with monkeys—the proper kind of monkeys, not those that swing sticks, leap through skies, and get sentenced to five hundred years for stealing peaches.

Liu Peiqiang sensed something was off. He pushed this feeling aside and planned to keep moving forward when suddenly a series of urgent whistles reached his ears.

"Enemy attack!"

The next moment, he saw before him a dense array of warning red dots. His visor was covered in red light, blocking his view completely so that he couldn't see anything clearly.

Liu Peiqiang tapped on his helmet quickly, making a clanging sound, "Mos! Mos! What are you doing?"

They had clearly scanned the area; there were no large life forms for miles. How could there be so many threat warnings?

Was there a problem with Mos?

A bug perhaps?

That couldn't be it!

Mos didn't speak but cleared away the red light in front of everyone and flashed a few photos.

Those were images captured by the Pioneer Hummingbird Drone ahead of them.

Their Shadow Pioneer Mantis Robot silently hid in a tree, helping the War Wolf Squad clear away the hidden, threatening creatures along their path.

All of a sudden.

A dozen predators of different species and appearances leaped at them, as if they had a clear target, directly underneath the Mantis Pioneer's tree.

With each cry, those large predators jumped agilely toward the Mantis, aiming straight for it.

The eyes of the Mantis Pioneer whirled rapidly, its internal nuclear battery provided rapid energy. With an exhilarating roar, its figure turned into lightning, its long knife sweeping swiftly. Like death in the night, it harvested those terrifying predators one after the other.

Blood!

Limbs!

Flesh!

They flew everywhere, as if it were the Hell Asura Field.

Yet, even such a bloody scene could not stop the roar and avid gaze of those predators.

Mos continued to raise his perspective.

In a place far beyond where the Mantis Pioneers were, creatures that had been drinking and resting stood up one after another. There were massive hippopotamus-like creatures with horns, and strange birds with four wings, all converging towards the location of the Mantis Pioneers.

Swarming.

Like a tide!

Liu Peiqiang's forehead instantly broke out in cold sweat, his eyes filled with disbelief, "How is this possible? How is this possible? How can these creatures be so united?"

The laws of nature.

Shouldn't it be the survival of the fittest, following the Dark Forest Law?

To always be vigilant and prevent being hunted by other predators.

How could they be so united!

And how did these creatures know there were invaders?

He soon saw the answer.

In the farthest distance, a group of tall, humanoid beings with blue skin were riding creatures similar to horses towards their direction. They wielded long spears in their hands, seemingly commanding the creatures ahead.

Were these blue-skinned people another evolutionary branch of humanity?

How did they manage to control other creatures?

Had they domesticated these beings, tamed them into something akin to dogs?

Liu Peiqiang could no longer think because he no longer had the time to think. He bellowed, "Enable the defense system! Recall the Mantis Pioneers! Be ready for the beast tide attack! The enemy is coming!"

The teammates around him did not have the same level of authority; although they did not know what was happening, the mention of a beast tide made them involuntarily gasp in shock.

"Form up!"

A few team members threw out their foam devices, quickly pouring the spare water in their hands onto them. The foam devices expanded directionally, forming a gigantic barrier, creating walls that faced all around.

As they continued to beat them, the soft walls became solid, and soon there were firm thudding sounds, becoming the most solid defense.

"Lay down a layer on the ground, too; this planet's creatures might have giant earthworms!"

Liu Peiqiang observed for any gaps, his brain racing. His breathing became rapid; this was an entirely new planet different from Earth, and he absolutely could not use Earth's static thinking.

Otherwise.

What awaited him.

Would be the annihilation of his entire force—an unacceptable outcome!

His eyes flickered, and he suddenly asked, "How far are we from our main base?"

"We've walked for an hour, covering a straight-line distance of sixty-two miles."

With a power propulsion device, even under a load of several hundred pounds, they could still reach speeds of several hundred miles per hour.

Due to the rainforest, plus the need to be cautious of various dangers, their pace was not fast.

"Sixty-two miles?"

Liu Peiqiang nodded silently, glanced at his watch, and murmured, "That's enough..."

His watch.

It was equipped with a little trump card given to him by The Wandering Earth.
