Chapter 29: Reusing Intelligence (Seeking Recommendations)_1

Jiang Yu found a delicate balance based on the fact that both Ye Wenjie and Kong Xiang sought intelligence from each other while having enough trust in him.

In such circumstances, although he was a double agent, he wouldn't suffer harm from these two forces but could fully capitalize on them.

On Tuesday afternoon, Jiang Yu arrived at Kong Xiang's home as arranged, early, and even brought some vegetables and meat.

Kong Xiang's son, a junior in high school, also helped in the kitchen, and the three of them chatted and laughed while preparing a large table full of dishes.

When Kong Xiang's wife came home from work and saw the table full of dishes, she was moved to tears.

After dinner, Kong Xiang and Jiang Yu went out to the terrace to smoke.

Kong Xiang's wife said, "Old Kong, why are you even teaching smoking? Last time Xiao Yu came, he didn't smoke!"

Kong Xiang chuckled, "This kid has good comprehension; I didn't teach him, he learned it all by himself."

Kong Xiang's wife shook her head with a smile and went to read in the study.

Jiang Yu took a drag of his cigarette, "I've acquired two pieces of intelligence from Professor Ye. One, the Redemptionists have planted a spy beside Evans.

"Two, the Redemptionists' knowledge about the Adventists is more detailed than we imagined. They somehow learned from some channel that the police seem to be planning to arrest Jiang Shuo."

Kong Xiang was startled, "Indeed, quite detailed. I only just found out that Jiang Shuo is trapped and was pondering whom to send for the rescue.

"As for the spy around Evans, it is indeed true. Last month, I heard Evans eliminated a few traitors with the Lord's help."

He sighed, "That idiot Jiang Shuo will expose the organization ahead of time!"

Jiang Yu thought for a while before saying, "Is it necessary to rescue Jiang Shuo?"

Kong Xiang took a deep puff, "Even though Jiang Shuo is stupid, he knows too much. He can't fall into the hands of the police."

Jiang Yu suggested again, "Pan Han could go for the rescue; he also has considerable forces at his disposal."

Kong Xiang extinguished his remaining cigarette and considered for a while before saying, "I will not go personally, nor will I leave any clues that the police could trace."

Jiang Yu's repeated dissuasion had led Kong Xiang to vaguely guess that he had also gathered some information from his meetings with the police.

He surmised that the police had set a trap by using Jiang Shuo as bait, waiting for more people to fall into it, which is why Jiang Yu kept reminding him not to fall for it.

At the same time, Kong Xiang speculated that despite Jiang Yu's repeated contacts with the police, the information he provided them should have been very limited.

Not to mention anything else, just telling the police that he, Kong Xiang, was a big boss of ETO would have landed him in jail long ago.

Jiang Yu took a few sips of his drink and suddenly asked, "Teacher, do you think the Lord stands with us or with the Redemptionists?"

Kong Xiang looked up at the bright moon and sighed, "The Lord has never expressed a position, but he should lean towards us. After all, the Lord often communicates with Evans but has never communicated with the Commander."

Jiang Yu also heaved a long sigh. He stubbed out his cigarette, looking at the dazzling lights around the neighborhood, "Tomorrow I will be leaving the country with Professor Ye."

"Do you know where to?"

"I don't know."

Madame Ye was always very cautious about such details.

Kong Xiang took a deep breath, "Be careful on your own. If you run into trouble and need the organization's help, you can reach out to the local Adventist leader.

"The secret code for the first encounter between unfamiliar members is: You say 'the Lord from the stars', and the other person replies 'will ultimately descend upon the earth'."

Jiang Yu nodded, committing it to memory.

It was Jiang Yu's first trip abroad, and he was quite composed, after all, he wasn't going for tourism.

That night, Jiang Yu slept soundly, and early the next morning, he took a car to the airport with Ye Wenjie, Chu Xu, and others.

In the car, Jiang Yu quietly said to Ye Wenjie, "Yesterday was Dean Kong's wife's birthday, I helped out a bit, and heard some incoherent bits of intelligence during his phone call with someone else."

This was a pretext Jiang Yu had prepared in advance, the balance he had found was to provide both sides with some non-core intelligence about the other.

To both parties, it seemed he was always making an effort to gather intelligence, but this intelligence would not have any impact on the current internal ETO power struggle.

And the truly core intelligence, Jiang Yu would provide to Shi Qiang.

Jiang Yu said, "There seems to be someone named Jiang Shuo who's run into some trouble, and Dean Kong appears to be thinking of ways to rescue him."

This was a secondary use of information, since arresting Jiang Shuo was a done deal, presenting it to Ye Wenjie as intelligence was barely considered a merit.

Ye Wenjie frowned, "That Jiang Shuo should have been shot long ago, his hands are covered in the blood of scholars, we've encircled him twice and he's escaped both times, who has him trapped this time?"

Jiang Yu shook his head, "Dean Kong didn't mention that on the phone."

Ye Wenjie thought for a moment, "It must be the government! Getting rid of such a villain would indeed be gratifying!"

Jiang Yu continued, "I saw a paper on the social impact of Genetic Modification Technology on Dean Kong's desk.

"I only saw the title, I didn't have time to read the content. If it was just casually lying on his desk like that, it couldn't be a confidential document, could it?"

"Not necessarily!" said Ye Wenjie. "Kong Xiang doesn't have his guard up around you. You wouldn't see anything top-secret, but he might make slip-ups with some important documents.

"To my knowledge, Pan Han has been lobbying for Genetic Modification all year, this document may very well be related to Pan Han's activities."

Jiang Yu pretended to be regretful, "If only I'd taken a closer look!"

"You've already done very well! Still, you need to be careful to get more intelligence."

Jiang Yu responded affirmatively.

After a silence of more than ten seconds in the compartment, Jiang Yu changed the topic, "Has Sister Dong been stable these days?"

Speaking of Yang Dong, a tender smile appeared on Ye Wenjie's face, "The advice you gave her before improved her spirits a lot, though now she's gotten into playing games."

"She can't always be cooped up at home!" An idea struck Jiang Yu suddenly, "Next week is the Mid-Autumn Festival, why not call over a few of Sister Dong's friends for a gathering at home?"

"Nonsense!" laughed Ye Wenjie. "The Mid-Autumn Festival is for spending time with family, not friends!"

Not to be dissuaded, Jiang Yu tried another angle, "When is your birthday?"

Sitting in the passenger seat, Chu Xu answered for Ye Wenjie, "It's already passed this year, you'll have to wait until next year."

Ye Wenjie smiled, "There are just over ten days until Dongdong's birthday, we can have any gathering then."

Jiang Yu clapped his hands, "Deal! Leave the arrangements to me!

"You don't know, but one of my teachers is an old classmate of Sister Dong and has been clamoring to get together with her; I definitely have to invite him this time."

The teacher Jiang Yu mentioned was none other than the big shot Logic, and the whole clamoring to meet Yang Dong was just groundwork laid by Jiang Yu!

Ye Wenjie nodded with a smile, offering no objection.

Jiang Yu's mood improved a lot, and he regaled Ye Wenjie and Chu Xu with numerous jokes on the way, filling the car with laughter.

Upon arriving at the airport, Jiang Yu received his ticket and found out that he was going to Mongolia!
