"Protest!" the people watching the speech shouted, "Protest against the unjust treatment by the Solar System State!"
Far away in the New Continent Star System, Jiang Yu, too, could see the reactions from various shelter cities. He did not respond but continued:
"The Solar System State owes you nothing. Saving you was out of the fraternity between compatriots, not out of a need for your gratitude.
"But you need to understand that in the entire universe, only the Solar System State has the capability and the will to save you.
"And in the past thirty years, you have made no contribution to humanity, while the Solar System State has done much in pioneering for humanity.
"In the Solar System State, what people value most is fairness, and we cannot let you, who have done nothing, enjoy the fruits of the pioneers!
"Therefore, all of you must undergo labor reformation, to rediscover and find yourselves in labor.
"Of course, as second-class citizens, you are guaranteed your basic rights and security, education, and so on.
"Lastly, I would like to advise you not to be misled by that irresponsible rhetoric of human rights and freedom. Everyone should have human rights and freedoms, but you also have the duty to be fair and contribute.
"There is no such thing as a free lunch in this world. You thought you had taken advantage earlier, but in reality, you suffered a great loss.
"Because a small group of people received more than you, they gained privileges and controlled every aspect of your lives."
Jiang Yu spread his hands: "Well, that concludes my speech. Prepare to welcome your new lives!"
On the big screen, Jiang Yu's figure disappeared, and the people watching the speech exploded in a hive of protest, venting their objections.
Most people, after venting, came to terms with reality and were genuinely preparing to face their new lives.
Yet many still believed that the actions of the Solar System State were a provocation against their dignity.
Unfortunately, this vocal minority was quite adept at causing trouble. The worlds within the shelters became chaotic again and soon, violent incidents began to occur.
They then started banding together, beginning to violently resist the rule of the Solar System State.
Among these people, a considerable number were former soldiers of the Federal Government. The officers had fled with the warships, but many fighting men remained in the shelter worlds.
Their first step was to attack the Solar System State's law enforcement robots.
The law enforcement robots did not fight back; before being destroyed, they warned using a broadcast: "In the Solar System State, everyone must be responsible for their actions, without exception.
"Since you have taken up arms, you must be prepared for the consequences.
"I know you are so agitated largely because of long-term indoctrination, so the Governing Council has already issued a pardon plan in advance. If you surrender, you will only receive three to twenty more years of labor reform."
Those with bloodied eyes paid no heed to these.
After destroying the law enforcement robots, they put on space combat suits and launched an attack on the 'Octopus Spaceships' outside of Space City.
The Solar System State's counterattack thus began; as squad after squad of advanced combat robots entered the battlefield, the war had little suspense.
The attackers against the Solar System State soon became corpses. After being shot, they drifted away from the outer walls of Space City, from the mechanical arms of the 'Octopus Spaceships', floating out into space, and then gradually falling behind the ships.
The combat robots entered Space City and began to clear out those who had participated in the violent attacks.
The rioters were no match for these combat robots and surrendered in droves. Then, a new batch of law enforcement robots started to pass judgment on them.
Apart from only three people who surrendered immediately after the attack, every other participant got what they asked for—more than ten years of labor reform.
It would take over forty years of labor to have a chance at obtaining all the rights of a citizen of the Solar System State.
This moderately sized riot was thus extinguished, and with combat robots stationed in the cities, no one dared to cause more trouble.
It was at this time that the Solar System began its official descent into two-dimensionality.
Neptune, closest to the Two-Dimensional Fragment, was the first to complete the fall. After this riot, people realized that Neptune had already completely fallen into two dimensions.
The images captured by the still-operating optical telescopes showed Neptune with a clear ring structure.
The two-dimensional Neptune mainly had three ring zones. The outermost was a blue ring, looking quite dazzling, like the eyelashes and eyeshadow of an eye, made up of layers of hydrogen and helium.
The middle was a white ring, Neptune's mantle that was twenty thousand kilometers thick.
The dark central area was the planet's core, composed of rock and ice, with a mass equivalent to that of Earth.
Next were Saturn, Mars, the Sun, as one after another familiar celestial bodies were destroyed, whether it was the New Continent Star System, Earth several light-years away, or the fleeing populace of the Solar System Federation.
And new worlds like the Starship Earth, which were paying close attention to this event.
Everyone, as if by an unspoken agreement, stared at the screen for a long time without speaking.
Humanity could only watch powerlessly as their homeland was destroyed.
Some were filled with anger, some began to fear, some vowed vengeance, and some suggested taking precautions to prevent a similar event from happening again, to never expose the current human world.
The people who had just ended the chaos of the bunker world were also stunned.
Suddenly, they found their previous thoughts and convictions laughable.
Compared to the entire Solar System, compared to all of humanity, they were so insignificant. How could they hope to withstand such a strike from the Dark Forest?
It was then that someone finally understood Jiang Yu's speech.
Humanity was far too small compared to the universe. Only through unity could they possibly resist strikes from the cosmos.
The fall of the Solar System continued, next were Mercury, and part of Venus on the Sun's side, followed by Jupiter, Uranus, and Pluto.
As Pluto fell into two dimensions, the Sun's light disappeared, and the star that once illuminated the human world had become part of a painting. Who knew what state it would present in the Two-dimensional World.
The fleet, having passed Pluto, gradually caught up with those who had fled earlier.
The phenomenon of spacetime backflow had already reached this area. Despite their ships continuously accelerating, they were virtually nailed in place.
They first pleaded for rescue from the Solar System State, and this time the plea was finally answered, responded to personally by Jiang Yu: "Without you, humanity will be purer."
Then they started cursing with the most malicious language, but the Solar System State closed off all communication channels concerning them, and no one could hear their voices anymore.
As the fleet neared the speed of light, Jiang Yu gave another brief speech, "Only by destroying our hometown can humanity truly grow up. Otherwise, we will be like spoiled children, comfortably nesting in our own homes.
"I want to thank the civilization that brought the Two-dimensional foil to us, and at the same time, I will bury this hatred deep in my heart.
"I hope you will do the same, and one day we must find them and destroy their homelands, to avenge our losses!
"Now that we are free of the shackles of our homeland, humanity, move forward!
"Once we have built a new home, humanity will once again take a great leap forward!"
Many crew members aboard the "Octopus Spaceships", after listening to Jiang Yu's speech, took off their hats and saluted towards the rear.
Farewell, Solar System!
This goodbye may well be forever!
