Jiang Yu and others worked for several more days, and only when the order of human society was largely restored did they have time to go home.
Yang Dong had already resumed work, and Jiang Que had returned to school; both of them took leave upon learning that Jiang Yu was coming home.
When the three met, they hugged each other tightly for a long time before letting go.
Jiang Que said, "Dad! I've decided. I want to study physics too. I don't want people to go through this kind of panic again."
Jiang Que had always been undecided about whether to follow in her father's footsteps or her mother's.
However, the Paradise incident made Jiang Que make up her mind firmly, no longer wavering or hesitating.
Jiang Yu smiled and said, "Every hardship is a trial for us, and our little Jiang Que has grown up."
The three of them sat down around the dining table, talking, while a robot promptly served them drinks.
Yang Dong asked, "I heard that the flight paths in the New Continent Star System haven't reappeared, and they won't ever appear again?"
Jiang Yu nodded, "The information we've received so far indicates that, although curvature can be detected, the original paths have been 'ironed out' and now they are flat forever."
He paused and then said, "It makes me think of the iron in Yun Tianming's story. Do you think his story was hinting at this technology in Paradise?"
If that's really the case, then humanity would need to re-evaluate the technology of the Trisolarans.
Had the Trisolarans conceived of this concept at least a hundred years ago, and have they since made certain advancements in its application?
"It's possible, but no need to worry too much," Yang Dong analyzed for Jiang Yu. "The way the Trisolarans transmit information limits the speed of their technological development.
"One can imagine, when a society has no secrets, what everyone likes to do most is not to think but to wait for others to share the results of their thinking.
"This would be a huge obstacle in their development. If they try to change their method of transmitting information by using genetic technologies based on humanity as an example, they will likely be delayed a long time in adapting to the new way of communication.
"In any case, we still have the advantage for the time being.
"So even if the Trisolarans thought of the technology to 'iron out' curvature, there's still a long way to go before they can realize it."
Jiang Yu nodded, "You make a lot of sense."
He looked at his watch: "I have to go soon and thank the Gyro Guard for the tips; I don't have time to eat at home."
The earlier tips from the Gyro Guard had been a great help to Jiang Yu, indeed the only basis for him to determine that he possessed a deterrent force.
"Alright!" Yang Dong said, "There's something else I wanted to tell you.
"On the way of our previous escape, several crew members of our spacecraft accidentally saw Paradise. Under their operation, our spaceship began flying towards Paradise.
"Fortunately, a young man made a quick decision, organized everyone to control the crew, and we were not affected by Paradise.
"In the conversations that followed, I found out he was a descendant of an old acquaintance, and I think you'll definitely want to meet him."
Jiang Yu asked, "A descendant of Auntie Da Feng?"
Speaking of which, Auntie Da Feng was now a figure from several centuries ago, but that rural old lady had left a profound impression on Jiang Yu, especially on Yang Dong, who grew up on Auntie Da Feng's milk.
Every time Yang Dong revived, she had Number Three look up the descendants of Auntie Da Feng, to lend a hand if they were in trouble and to leave them be if they were doing well.
"No," Yang Dong said. "Let's keep this a secret for now. Make some time to meet him."
"Wow, our Yang Dong knows how to keep a suspense now?"
Yang Dong gave Jiang Yu a glance, "I'll take that as a compliment then."
Jiang Yu laughed, "Okay, let's do it tomorrow afternoon. Since he's from an old acquaintance's family, we'll meet at home."
After some casual conversation, the three of them went their separate ways to take care of their own things, and Jiang Que, with a new goal in mind, knew to go to class without needing pushes from Jiang Yu or Yang Dong.
```
Yang Dong was assessing the technological level of Paradise, as well as making theoretical conjectures about Paradise's technology.
Jiang Yu returned to his office, ready for another round of communication with the Gyro Guard.
As he stepped through the door, Number Three followed him in and handed Jiang Yu the latest summary report.
The report had two main points. The first was a rough estimate of the range where curvature could not be found and real-time communication was impossible, based on inquiries to various ships.
This range was something Jiang Yu had roughly guessed before: between six thousand and six thousand two hundred astronomical units.
Jiang Yu couldn't help but frown, "Six thousand astronomical units again!"
What did this really mean?
Number Three suggested, "Should we try asking the Gyro Guard?"
Jiang Yu nodded, "I will."
The second point was the final tally of casualties, which had reached a horrifying fifty-six million plus!
To think, the entire process of the Trisolarans making humanity migrate to Australia hadn't resulted in so many deaths.
This number far exceeded Jiang Yu's psychological expectations, especially since Paradise's second wave of attacks had just begun.
Jiang Yu held his forehead and let out a long sigh, "This is the power of a God-level Civilization!"
He paused, then added, "Let's erect a monument. I hope everyone can forever feel the pressure of a God-level Civilization from this event."
Currently, aside from individual memorials like Bo Xiangdong's, the Solar System State only had two monuments commemorating events.
One was the Second Battle Memorial, and the other was the New Continent Star System Battle Memorial.
The previous two times a monument was erected, they were imbued with songs of praise and crying spirits. Jiang Yu hoped this monument would continue to spur humanity until they too became a God-level Civilization.
This time, Jiang Yu didn't go to the conference room. Instead, he stayed in his office to contact the Gyro Guard, as he was afraid the conversation might reveal some of his secrets.
And when communicating with other civilizations, one must always be ready to present all their information, to prove their standing, or to lay groundwork for deception.
With so many secrets, it was indeed inconvenient for Jiang Yu to discuss these matters in front of others.
Once the real-time communication with the Gyro Guard was connected, Jiang Yu first expressed his gratitude, "Thank you for your previous warning, which made me realize the deterrence of time and successfully deterred the creators of Paradise with the power of the future."
It took the Gyro Guard quite a while to reply, "The power of the future! Does that mean your future has broken the chains of civilization, become a God-level Civilization, and provided assistance to you now?"
There wasn't much need to hide this. Jiang Yu replied, "That's correct!"
The Gyro Guard then asked, "How did you manage that?"
Jiang Yu, "I don't know. I only know that the flowers bloom beautifully, but not how they bloom.
"What I am doing now is facilitating the robust growth of flowers' branches and leaves, and I don't even know what kind of buds will emerge.
"If you can keep operating, maybe you'll see this process."
After more than ten seconds, the Gyro Guard replied, "I'm sorry, your metaphor is a bit difficult for me to understand. It took me some time to grasp it.
"I will operate as long as possible, but I can at most operate normally for a few thousand more years."
Jiang Yu said, "We might be able to help you with maintenance in the future."
He didn't delve further into this topic, "Besides giving thanks, I have two questions to ask.
"The first question is, why is the attack range of Paradise six thousand astronomical units? Why is six thousand astronomical units a 'common distance' among many civilizations?"
The Gyro Guard, "Because the leap limit of intelligent life in the three-dimensional universe is one-tenth of a light-year!"
