Chapter 18: Trisolaris's Plan to Confront the Human Crisis_1

Trisolaran Leader: "Why did Logic propose the Wallfacer Anti-Humanity Act? What's the meaning behind this? The PDC is already supposed to oversee them. Is there some sort of stratagem at play here? What do you think?"

Science Governor: "We have collected many famous events about stratagems from Earth, although we still cannot understand many of these. We've introduced these stratagems and their outcomes into our computational models, allowing the models to analyze optimal solutions for us.

Although this can help us analyze stratagems quickly, without other breakthroughs, our level of stratagem might have reached its limit.

Human thinking and behavioral models are extremely complex, almost tens of millions of times more so than ours. Due to constraints in computational resources, we can only conduct preliminary calculations based on the actions of Logic and Lin Sen. Despite this, we often arrive at different conclusions.

According to our existing models, there's a 40% chance that Logic's goal is to increase human trust in the Wallfacers, although we don't understand why a person engaged in deceit—who everybody knows is deceiving—still needs the trust of humans."

Sophon Governor: "Humans need Wallfacers, and Wallfacers need humans; this might be why Logic proposed the Wallfacer Anti-Humanity Act.

Wallfacers must compromise in order to gain the support of all humanity; this is something that might not be calculable using mathematical models.

My predecessor left me with insights, and I, too, have gained a deeper understanding of humans. This isn't pointless sentimentality, but rather that human society is like a finely tuned contradiction assembly that cannot be calculated through mathematical models. This is a unique societal structure inherent to Earthlings."

Trisolaran Leader: "Yet another concept we don't understand, and it's also the most frequently appearing word in the history of human civilization: compromise. They even refer to politics as the art of compromise.

Let us suspend these discussions. We are powerless with these non-mathematical models for now; let's direct our resources somewhere useful and not pay too much attention.

Now, talk about Logic's three analyses of the escape. What impact will this have on human society? Does our initial Human Crisis Response Plan need to be changed?"

Humans regard Trisolaris as the Trisolar Crisis, while Trisolarans see humans as the Human Crisis. For this, Trisolarans had long ago devised the Human Crisis Response Plan, "Miracles," "Dyeing," "Sophon Project," "Wall-Breaking Plan"... all stemmed from here.

Strategy Governor: "Leader, Logic's three analyses of the escape will boost human hope for the future, and our understanding of hope is fundamentally different from that of humans.

We believe hope is the expectation of an increased probability of success, which is meaningless to us; we give our all to every problem, regardless of the cost.

Humans are full of deceitfulness and cunning. They are unwilling to make an effort, and the only reasons that can make them exert themselves are 'survival and exploiting the efforts of others.'

Humans are now striving for survival. They think hope can increase the probability of success, but this changes nothing.

The Human Crisis Response Plan does not need to be changed.

First, the resources of the Solar System are the most plentiful of all the nearby star systems. Based on the pace of human development, even with the Sophons locking down human theoretical physics, human science and technology can still make significant advances.

Their technology would get built up to a higher level with the vast resources available. Human warships might even reach speeds between 5% to 15%, something the Science Governor had predicted quite early.

Our technology, in human terms, would be 'gunpowder' compared to their 'cold weapons'; they wouldn't be able to inflict substantial harm on us.

We only need to prevent them from discovering 'gunpowder.' The Sophon blockade is what prevents them from discovering this 'gunpowder.'

There's no way for us to technologically limit the humans' escape. What we always fear is the escape itself, not the technology of the escape.

Second, Sophon communication has distance limitations, not because of our technical limitations, but due to considerations about resource usage and exposure risks.

All science and technology are uses of energy and space, just at different levels. The vacuum zero-point energy I utilize is something incomprehensible to humans, but it is also a utilization of energy and space.

(The universe's four fundamental elements: matter, energy, time, space. The mass-energy equation combines the essence of matter and energy, which we view as energy. Relativity combines time and space, which we see as space. The technological level of a civilization is also represented by its use of energy and space.)

Such are the limitations of Sophon communication. When creating Sophons, we set them for a communication range of 10 light-years (in the original text they encountered a Sophon Blind Zone at 7 light-years). First is the limitation of resources, second is the consideration of pursuing potential escapes, and third is the risk of exposure that communication beyond this distance might bring."

"So if humanity flees, we also need to increase the communication strength of the Sophons, even though it might expose us. However, appropriate risks are worth trying,"

"If we can't completely annihilate humanity, we also need to prepare for escape. This is the last resort in our Human Crisis Response Plan."

Third, the analysis of the Doomsday battle situation is also correct. Humanity will have corresponding countermeasures."

"Our original plan was to launch attacks from the Kuiper Belt in all directions, simultaneously destroying all their warships, and then pursuing any remaining escape fleets."

"And simultaneously send a Waterdrop into the inner Solar System to blockade the sun."

Trisolaran Leader, "Logic proposed a Mercury collision with the sun, is this a threat to us?"

Science Governor, "We have calculated that by exhausting the asteroids of the Solar System, large meteorites, and satellites of some planets, and propelling them with the high-thrust engines they might possess, and using the slingshot effect (which can accelerate, decelerate, and change direction), it is possible to strike Mercury in the opposite direction at high speed, causing Mercury to slow down and sink into the sun."

"If Mercury sinks into the sun, the entire Solar System will become a sea of fire, even affecting the Kuiper Belt. Even if we reach the Solar System, we would barely be able to survive in the Kuiper Belt. It would take 20 million Earth years for the Solar System to return to its previous state."

"Although the material resources of the Kuiper Belt are poor, they are still sufficient for us to replenish resources and head to other star systems. However, there will be no more perfect homeland like the Solar System in the vicinity."

"Through calculations using human behavior models, we have concluded that humans will not allow such a plan to be implemented. They have many ways to stop it, and the threat level of this plan to us is 13."

Strategy Governor, "No, Science Governor is wrong. The threat level of this plan could reach 60.

"The plan itself may not be threatening, but if we let Logic implement it successfully, it will ultimately force us to negotiate with them at the last moment."

"At that time, we will face an important decision. If we negotiate with them, we might have to lift the Sophon blockade, and their technology will quickly surpass us."

"If we don't negotiate, the completely desperate humans might really carry out Mercury's collision with the sun. The First Fleet might survive, but the subsequent fleets would not be able to get through, and this place is no better than the Trisolaran Star System."

"But none of these are key. We would not worry about such things, life would just be difficulty. I do not care."

"The real threat lies behind this plan. A Mercury collision with the sun could attract the attention of other civilizations in the vicinity."

"Higher civilizations may monitor and notice that a planet falling into a star is not a natural event, it's an act of intelligent civilization; in other words, we would have exposed ourselves."

Trisolaran Leader, "Your assumption is correct, this is a situation no one wants to face.

"When he stands at the negotiating table with a determination to die, we have lost. However, they probably haven't realized the threat this plan poses to us."

"Human cunning is our greatest enemy, our situation is worrisome.

"Compared to this, Logic and Lin Sen surely have a bigger plan, which we must breach the wall to discover at all costs."

"The disasters and predicaments we've faced in the past are much worse than this situation. Has God abandoned Trisolaris? Aren't we fortunate to have come this far?"

"Luck, that's a word from Earth. Our home star originally had 11 planets, now only we remain."

"Originally we were destined to fall into a star or become a wandering fossil in the universe, but at a critical moment, we received a message from humans."

"We are unfortunate because we live on Trisolaris, but we are also fortunate because we are still Trisolarans, nothing is more precious than survival!"

"We are still here, and we will continue to exist, there must be a place for us in this universe!"
