Chapter 81 Speech on News_1

PDC contacted Lin Sen, asking if Lin Sen and Logic could make a simple speech.

Although Logic and Lin Sen jointly commanded this operation in public, PDC knew that Lin Sen was the core of this operation. Logic now looked at Lin Sen with new respect, as he still hadn't fully grasped how Lin Sen had accomplished it, but that didn't matter. Since he couldn't understand, he stopped trying and just maintained his trust in Lin Sen.

(Personally, I think Logic wasn't great in the early stages; the real greatness came during the establishment of deterrence and the career as Swordholder.)

Lin Sen agreed.

At 3 PM, a conference hall was urgently assembled outside the building for a press conference.

The security was extremely tight, layer upon layer— the Wallfacer's safety always came first.

The number of reporters allowed into the venue was limited, and the entry process was very strict. These reporters had no objections; they were simply thrilled. Outside the press conference, reporters from all over the world had gathered, as if being closer to the Wallfacer might bestow upon them some sort of empowering energy. They all wanted to capture the likenesses of Logic and Lin Sen, whose photos were now being printed like mad.

Everyone was chanting for the Wallfacer; more and more people were starting to worship them as a belief. Unlike those who were disheartened, these people worshiped the Wallfacer for doing things they didn't even dare to dream of.

The press conference started on time.

The host announced the beginning of the press conference and gave a detailed account of the whole operation, from the mission planning a few months ago to the direct destruction of ETO today, and the tremendous gains from this operation.

As the host recounted the whole process, everyone initially exhilarated, then became perplexed. How did the Wallfacer know the identity of the First Emperor of Qin from ETO, his hiding place, and the quantum computer he was developing? Why was it completely incomprehensible? Was the Wallfacer really so unfathomable?

Logic's Mercury crashing into the sun plan from four years ago was after all hypothetical, and it had already shocked people sufficiently then.

The success of the Operation Net had come too swiftly; even the participating and tracking human elite hadn't reacted; they thought it was just the beginning, but it had already ended.

Using process of elimination to screen suspects was not surprising— PDC could do more, but why were they able to directly pinpoint Habsburg was the First Emperor of Qin?

Furthermore, why did the Trisolarans create a Quantum Chip? How did the Wallfacer find out? Judging from the results of the Wallfacer's strike, it was clear that the goal was to obtain quantum computer technology, all of which was awe-inspiring.

Next, the host invited Logic to speak, and Logic passed the microphone to Lin Sen.

This surprised nobody; Logic had been doing this lately, leaving all matters to Lin Sen to handle. He had hardly said a word in public since the last Wallfacer hearing, but nobody dared to underestimate Logic; the aftershocks of the shocking impact he had given humanity four years ago had not yet faded.

Lin Sen began, "This is part of the plan!"

The press conference was broadcast globally; at this moment, all the televisions around the world showed this alone.

At this moment, many people had a new understanding of "this is part of the plan," and they truly comprehended the charm of this sentence. Before it was the Wallfacer strategy that imbued it with meaning, but now it was the Wallfacer who had given it meaning.

Lin Sen continued, "The success of this operation also requires us to thank PDC. To cover their objectives, Wallfacers will do many unrelated things, and the key to the operation is hidden among them.

"That PDC was able to accurately understand the intentions of the Wallfacer, execute all of the Wallfacer's commands, and perform every detail to perfection— that is the key to success.

"As for how we found out the address of ETO's leader and their research on quantum computing, that is part of the plan."

Lin Sen looked at the audience and then raised his voice, his emotions growing more intense, "Deceiving the Trisolarans is not difficult, as long as we can understand each other. The Trisolarans can't discern our real intentions, and this time we deceived them right in front of their eyes.

"The Trisolarans have failed; their plans were obliterated before they even began.

"Now we can defeat them, and we will surely do so in the future!

"In the face of human wisdom, Trisolarans are as weak as children; we will definitely defeat them.

"The Trisolarans are nothing but bugs!"

The final shout prompted some in the audience to also cry out, "The Trisolarans are bugs!"

This was humanity's reply to the Trisolarans' statement from 12 years ago, "You are bugs!" We responded to your scorn with our actions.

After the crowd quieted down for a moment, Lin Sen continued to speak, "At the same time, we must also recognize the gap between us and the Trisolarans—the gap in technology is still insurmountable, and this is something we must always remember in our hearts."

"Weakness and ignorance are not obstacles to survival, but arrogance is."

"We cannot become arrogantly complacent about our gap with them just because we have achieved a single victory over the Trisolarans."

"We may scorn them in our strategies, and they may crush us with their technology, but the true battlefield is still an upright contest of technology, and any strategy is only an auxiliary function."

"The top speed of Trisolaran warships is 10% the speed of light, and even if our warship speed reaches 20% the speed of light in the future, we should not assume we can defeat them."

"A bow and arrow with a range of 2 kilometers will not win against a rifle. What we need to do in the future is to narrow the technological gap with them. The smaller the gap in technology, the richer the soil for utilizing strategies."

"We will make them tremble before the cunning of humanity..."

When the crowd quieted down somewhat, Lin Sen went on, "Now, I can also answer any questions you might have. I will answer whatever I can."

Everyone lifted their arms, and Lin Sen pointed at a young man at random, "Second row, number 13."

The young journalist: "Thank you for your contributions to humanity. Have you always been confident about defeating the Trisolarans? What is the source of your confidence?"

Lin Sen: "The Trisolarans are but strategical bugs; I have never been afraid of them."

"As for the source of confidence? If you understand the fundamental differences between two civilizations and face your own civilization squarely, you will find there is nothing frightening about the Trisolarans."

"For instance, if you were armed with weapons from World War I facing an army with World War II weapons, what would you do?"

The journalist answered, "Although I would be afraid, I would dare to take the challenge. The gap isn't that substantial, and there's a chance of victory by leveraging other advantages."

"Even Huaxia, armed with weapons half a century old, could defeat the most powerful army of Country A, as long as they fought there was hope."

Lin Sen: "Well said. Many factors determine victory in war, and there is indeed hope if you can exploit your advantages and avoid your disadvantages."

"However, you should understand that in this unequal war, you will face great sacrifices. If the opponent has a compelling reason to eliminate you, your chances of winning are almost zero."

But, change the setting; if you were armed with a stick facing a child with firearms, would you be afraid?"

The journalist answered, "Of course not."

Lin Sen: "That's right. The Trisolarans are like children with firearms. As long as we can deceive this child, they pose no threat to us."

"But we must also face the technological gap between us. We can scorn children in our hearts, but we must not underestimate their weapons."

"If we rush in to confront the child, the weapon in the child's hand can still kill you."

"This action has proven that the Trisolarans are merely children holding weapons we dread!"

"Why should we fear them then?"

The audience erupted in applause and laughter below the stage. For many, it was the first genuine laughter since the Trisolaris crisis; people laughed and cried at the same time.

This represented a transformation of the soul: Humanity was no longer blindly despairing in the face of Trisolaris...
