Chapter 109: Lin Sen Hibernates Again_1

Rey Diaz: "Although I don't know why you can predict the Great Ravine so accurately, I'm willing to believe you.

"I will also do as you ask, but why does the plan need to include Wade and Ding Yi? I can protect them myself.

"I've known him for a long time, a despicable little man who takes pleasure in deceit and betrayal, then savors the despair of others. I really don't like him."

Lin Sen: "Thank you. The future of humanity needs every one of you.

"As for Wade, he is a wolf, an unscrupulous one at that. You are far superior to him in the grand scheme of things, as you prefer to be upright and honorable.

"But he is different. He is unscrupulous, willing to trample on the most basic morals of humanity. He has advantages you do not, making him more suitable for dealing with certain critical issues.

"There are things you can't, and are unwilling to do, that you wouldn't do even facing death. But he can, and he can go further!"

Rey Diaz: "Alright, I accept, and when the time is right, I'll listen to Wade. It's not because I think he can go further, but because I believe in you, and that's enough."

Lin Sen: "Some people will never let you down, everyone has their own value, and perhaps the more cunning they seem, the more amiable they may be in reality.

"I will stay on the Moon for a few months to learn more about the Moon Base, which should be our future stronghold."

Lin Sen's unspoken implication that "the more treacherous a person appears, the more his heart might be full of love" was naturally understood by Rey Diaz, who accepted Lin Sen's suggestion.

Rey Diaz: "Let's hope so! I'll take you through the entire Moon Base."

Then, Rey Diaz led Lin Sen on a tour of all the Moon Bases, which were mostly built relying on the Lunar Caves.

Many experts were astonished at how numerous these Lunar Caves are, offering even larger internal voids, with many large and small cavities, some evidence suggesting the Moon is more like a hollow sphere.

Each of these cavities could be transformed into a vast city, laying a solid foundation for the future transformation of the Moon.

The key is that the Moon has almost no violent geological activity now, meaning the cities built in these cavities would be very safe, possibly much safer than those on Earth.

There's actually less danger in the Moon Base than we imagine.

...

Several months later, Lin Sen was about to return to Earth.

With Rey Diaz set in place, if humans were killed by the Trisolarans earlier, it was entirely possible for humanity to flee and escape the Solar System after the Great Ravine.

Such an escape plan would not be seen as a flight by the Trisolarans, as Rey Diaz's warships would be controlled by the Steel Mark Clan, instilled with the unshakable belief in humanity's victory.

Humans also wouldn't see it as an escape, and while they might not want to trust the Steel Mark Clan, they would trust those staunch believers in humanity's triumph, the "Zhang Beihais," who were certainly not of the Steel Mark Clan.

Of course, should misfortune befall Lin Sen, he had already made quite clear his intentions in many respects. There would only be the path of escape left. Putting all the pieces together, it would inevitably be an escape.

Due to Lin Sen's instructions, Rey Diaz had now convened all experts to research the combination of genetic engineering and artificial starches and proteins, in hopes of mass-producing food.

Just to note, due to breakthroughs in quantum computing, the field of biological genetic engineering has seen the fastest progress among all sciences, which also laid the groundwork for the technology that combines genetic engineering with artificial starches and proteins.

Meanwhile, preliminary work on more large third-generation nuclear fusion power plants was underway, with expectations that these power plants would be operational within a year.

The corresponding technology also had significant room for improvement. According to the most optimistic estimates, in the future, hundreds of thousands of tons of food could be produced daily, which was roughly one-tenth of the global human daily food consumption at the moment. The amount was terrifying. Considering that this was compressed food, if it was distributed frugally, it could feed a quarter of the global population.

Since the food was synthetic, it had a long shelf life, especially on the Moon. Isolated from the air, the only thing necessary was to avoid some cosmic radiation, and such food could remain viable for over twenty years.

As for the taste, it naturally wouldn't be as delicious as natural food, but it wasn't bad either. Moreover, this kind of food was nutritionally complete and balanced, and easy to digest and absorb.

Once the construction of the Moon Base was on the right track, Rey Diaz would also enter hibernation, waiting for the great valley that Lin Sen had predicted to arrive.

Perhaps, as Lin Sen had said, the great valley harbored the rebirth of human civilization, but what exactly this rebirth entailed was something Rey Diaz had not yet clarified. Maybe Lin Sen had another plan; everything would wait for the arrival of the great valley.

That day, Lin Sen heard some good news: the first phase of the Moon Space Elevator project was completed, another great project that was previously unimaginable.

This meant that during the construction of the Moon Base, personnel and materials could be transported faster, simpler, and more economically to the base, which would greatly enhance the construction efficiency of the Moon Base.

The citizens of the Moon Base also cheered and celebrated; this was an accomplishment they had achieved, one that made the civilized world feel ashamed.

Having left the Moon Base, Lin Sen returned to the Wallfacer Base, communicated future work matters with Marcus, and allowed Marcus to move to the Moon Base once its construction was perfected.

In the Wallfacer Project Base, with four departments, Wang Miao, the head of the nano research department, took charge of the overall construction of the Space Particle Accelerator Ship after completing the space elevator project.

The head of the Controlled Fusion Research Department, Ding Yi, was responsible for the research of High-energy Particle Accelerator Spaceships. Zhuang Yu, the head of the Giant Reflective Mirror department, was also responsible for constructing the Giant Reflective Mirror at the Moon Base.

Only Marcus, the head of the Mind Tactility department, was still at the Earth Base and would also head to the Moon Base before long.

As for the Thoughtcontrol Center, due to the victory Lin Sen had brought to humanity, the number of Space Force members willing to undergo Thoughtcontrol was less than before in the original timeline.

This was also within Lin Sen's expectations. Those willing to undergo Thoughtcontrol were not cowardly or lacking in courage, but because they had insights beyond those of an ordinary person and saw that there was no possibility of human victory. This created a significant obstacle for the current construction of the Space Force.

The supervision of the Thoughtcontrol Center was very strict, focusing not on the control machines themselves but the operators. Each operation had to be recorded, and every operation had to be carried out with several people present to eliminate the ETO's infiltration and control of the machines as much as possible.

It was also to prevent the control machines from being casually accessed by others; of course, this was under Lin Sen's guidance, letting PDC supervise with the strictest methods to ensure the absolute safety of the control machines. Nobody would have thought that the absolutely safe control machines had problems from the beginning; since they couldn't be accessed casually, the problems couldn't be discovered either.

After visiting the Thoughtcontrol Center and making arrangements for some events, Lin Sen went directly into hibernation.

Lin Sen's hibernation took place on Earth, or rather, Lin Sen deliberately placed himself under the supervision of PDC. The condition for awakening from this round of hibernation was the emergence of a contingency in the human future.

The second volume has ended.

The content of this volume was relatively scarce, mainly involving the battle of wits between Lin Sen, ETO, and No. 7. Perhaps from the perspective of each of them, their choices at the time were well-considered; none of them were wrong, but there could only be one ultimate winner.

The protagonist's victory involved quite a bit of luck, but as the main character, luck was probably the last thing he'd lack. The readers probably don't have any issue with that.

In this volume, Lin Sen might not have been all that virtuous, ETO was not entirely evil, and the Trisolarans were portrayed with more depth. In the author's heart, no one is nobler; all are equally despicable.
