Chapter 112 Lin Sen's Speech Part 1

"Give civilization time, but also give time civilization."

"The doomsday battle is still four centuries away, perhaps two centuries; we cannot allow ourselves to fall into chaos now. If human survival cannot be guaranteed now, how can we face the challenge of the Trisolarans in the future?"

"In the face of such disaster, no single country or region can bear this responsibility alone; therefore, we need everyone to work together to face this challenge."

"Twenty years ago, no one would have believed that the Great Ravine would come, but both I and the other Wallfacers were preparing for today. I prepared the Giant Reflective Mirror, and Rey Diaz prepared the Moon Base and synthetic food."

"However, none of us expected the disaster to be so severe, far exceeding everyone's expectations, even those of the Wallfacers."

"But our plans can still play a significant role; we're always ready, always prepared to protect everyone. Fortune always favors the prepared."

"The Wallfacers take up the mission entrusted by all of humanity. I believe that if people around the world unite, we can definitely walk out of the Great Ravine."

"We recklessly destroyed Mother Earth in the past, and now we face the punishment she has meted out. But I believe she will forgive her children; Mother Earth also needs our protection."

"The Trisolaran crisis is the greatest crisis humanity has ever faced. The greater the crisis, the more we need to remain calm and rational."

"Suspending the mainstream defense plans might not be a bad thing; perhaps our defense plans also need to be rethought. We still lack a lot of crucial intelligence; having a clear target may be more useful than numb preparation."

"We bear the grave responsibility for the survival of human civilization, and reason and hope are the most precious things in this era."

"We need to think about the future most thoroughly and rationally."

"The first thing to consider is how we can defeat the Whirlwind Stomp. A large-scale defense plan is clearly inappropriate; how to defeat a small but infinitely powerful Whirlwind Stomp is the focus of the future space defense plan."

"With more preparation, more thought, we can have more hope."

"Just like Logic, when the Wallfacer Project designated him as a Wallfacer, he didn't launch his own plan. He needed calm and rational observation, and in the end, he found the Trisolarans' vulnerabilities."

"Step by step, we also lured the Trisolarans into making mistakes again, and we even completely eradicated the ETO fifteen years ago."

"Now, we too need calm and rationality. Pausing the construction of the mainstream defense plans might also allow us to see a different world."

"Humans themselves are the foundation of human civilization; every year of human civilization is worth our protection. A temporary halt is also for a better counterattack in the future."

"Some may say that my thoughts are treacherous, that we need to give everything to the fight against Trisolaris. But on sensible reflection, can sacrificing everything we have ensure the continuation of human civilization? If so, I'd be willing to be the first to sacrifice, and I believe everyone here would do the same."

"Our task is to defeat the invaders, everything we do is to leave a better tomorrow for our children, but isn't it a huge irony that our approach sacrifices the next generation?"

"The future needs us to strive and build, not to sacrifice ourselves meaninglessly. We will never give up hope, but what's more important is not to lose our rationality."

"We must protect tomorrow, but even more so, we need to protect today."

"For the sake of... humanity!"

"Give civilization time, but also give time civilization!"

The last sentence, "Give civilization time, but also give time civilization!" was shouted by Lin Sen.

The audience erupted in vigorous applause, excited, thrilled, and proud to have the Wallfacers.

It was unbelievable that Wallfacers could have anticipated this day 20 years ago and prepared so much for it, just like Lin Sen had captured the Earth-Trisolaris Organization, surpassing the limits of human imagination.

Upon hearing Lin Sen's words, they felt as if the future suddenly brightened. The most severe food shortage issue had already been addressed by the Wallfacers 20 years ago, and food might no longer be the main conflict for humanity.

As for the climate issue, although no one knew whether those 24 Giant Reflective Mirrors could effectively manage the global environment, they symbolized hope.

The underground shelter plan was once considered a joke, but Lin Sen had prepared for it for so many years, and even plastic steel materials had been transported to Earth for nearly 20 years.

It was hard to imagine what made Wallfacers even greater than gods, nearly prophesying all of humanity's future.

The greatest problem in human society now might be the issue of widespread unemployment, while the Moon Base, on the other hand, required a massive human resource, which was vital for easing the tension of human resources in the human world on Earth.

Especially after these years of hardship, humanity was losing hope for the future. As Lin Sen said, if sacrifice could lead to victory, they would rather be the first to sacrifice.

What humanity truly lacked was a beacon of light to guide and direct them; sacrifice was not the future. The true future lay in reason and calmness—perhaps it was time to reflect on the past.

The people in the audience also followed Lin Sen in shouting, "Give civilization to the ages, and give the ages civilization!" This voice, too, traveled through the television broadcast into the ears of all, reaching deep into every heart.

They, too, wanted to shout these words but feared being labeled traitors. Now the Wallfacer had shouted it for them. And so the slogan "Give civilization to the ages, and give the ages civilization!" resounded through the streets and alleys everywhere.

Concerning everyone's personal interests, many no longer wanted to continue this constant depletion of resources—it was a question in everyone's hearts whether such consumption truly had meaning, and now the Wallfacer had spoken it for everyone.

In the past, they dared not speak out, for any such talk might be stamped with the ETO label. Humanity always feared facing its true self and needed a guide, one of great prestige.

Humans were incapable of suppressing their own madness with their own strength; the low ebb was also a result of human frenzy. Many elite individuals saw the harm in continuing with such madness, but no one dared to speak up.

Only through experiencing pain could humanity understand pain.

Now was the best time for Lin Sen to guide humanity. If the low ebb went on for a while, that pain would turn into personal suffering, and guidance would become futile, maybe because people's hearts would have died.

That's why Lin Sen was the first to shout, "Give civilization to the ages, and give the ages civilization!" so that the future statement "Give the ages civilization, and not civilization to the ages," wouldn't have such a powerful impact. It would prevent humanity from resolutely following that comfortable path and never looking back again.

The words shouted by people of this era are completely different from those who have been tormented for decades and completely lost hope—one is about nurturing hope, the other about utter despair.

This speech also served to mitigate any potential discontent with Wallfacers that might arise within humanity.

Before this, no one could understand the plans of the Wallfacers; each Wallfacer consumed vast resources, yet none seemed to relate to dealing with the Trisolarans.

Hines was somewhat better. His research led to Thoughtcontrol, which seemed to help in future wars, but he also unleashed a devil that controlled thoughts.

Tyler's research on ball lightning could be seen as weapon research, but his Wallfacer plan was unacceptable to humanity, a thought that perhaps only a devil would entertain.

The most excessive of all was Rey Diaz, who began consuming vast resources to research Star-level Slugs, which were hardly useful in interstellar space, and then suddenly started constructing the Moon Base.

Amongst all Wallfacers, Rey Diaz consumed the most human resources, yet failed to provide any visible hope.

The Moon Base could be seen as a supplement to the mainstream defense plan, but aggressive expansion of the Moon Base was also inconsistent with the mainstream defense strategy, even once causing a shortage of construction resources for the mainstream defense plan.
