Lin Sen: "Quantum array effects? Are you referring to the Z-particle induction array technology used in sophon communication?"
"Actually, this is also the part that confuses me the most. Sophons, in many ways, are too much of a violation of our knowledge system. Have you also decrypted the principles behind the Z-particle induction array?"
Marcus: "We might say we've uncovered a part of it."
"The reason we were fooled by sophons is also because their various abilities are too heaven-defying, like superluminal travel. According to our current theories, this universe does not permit superluminal speeds, not even for information. Superluminal communication even violates causality law.
"We know that the effects of quantum entanglement don't actually breach the principle that nothing can surpass the speed of light, because no information is transmitted during the quantum entanglement process.
"Only when we began to understand some of the properties of curled-up High-Dimensional Space, did we realize that the ability for superluminal communication isn't so extraordinary. The Trisolarans hid this aspect very well, but as our understanding of high-dimensional levels grew, these mysterious veils were lifted by us, layer by layer.
"High-Dimensional Space and our current theories won't have a revolutionary impact. The adjustment is even much smaller than what relativistic mechanics meant for Newtonian mechanics; we just need to extend the lower limits.
"Meanwhile, Mister Taylor has deduced several fundamental characteristics of sophons:
"First, sophons can achieve instantaneous communication because the Trisolarans use an induction array formed by four sophons, which can be considered a high-dimensional entanglement resonance. This is also the foundation which sophons use to realize instantaneous communication.
"Second, when sophons move at high speeds, they must leave behind energy in space (see PS). Leaving behind negative energy will have certain impacts on the space.
"Third, sophons can freely ascend and descend in dimensions. They regard all dimensions consistently, that is, they can't discern space dimensions clearly. (In the original work, The Waterdrop was capturable by humans who entered High-Dimensional Space, suggesting they also cannot see four-dimensional space fragments. The Waterdrop must have been accompanied by sophons; otherwise, it wouldn't be able to perceive the outside world.)
"Many aspects of this universe exceed our comprehension, yet there are some most basic rules or principles that the universe has always been following, such as the various conservation laws, translational symmetry, causality, entropy increase... Every time we discover anomalies in these, it is actually a scientific breakthrough, because at a greater level, they are still being followed.
"Mister Taylor has also speculated that there might be a fifth fundamental force in High-Dimensional Space, which moves far faster than the speed of light and allows our brains to engage in informational entanglement with high-dimensional cognitive entities. Perhaps this force is also harnessed by the Z-particle Induction Array, but our understanding of this force is very limited.
"The Trisolarans use an induction array formed by four sophons and employ certain quantum effects to form a system capable of perceiving the macro world and communicating with one another. This perception also takes advantage of high-dimensional space properties. It's an incredibly complex process, and to be honest, we still haven't fully understood it.
"However, the methods of the Trisolarans have inspired us. Couldn't we also use cognitive entanglement resonance to realize this kind of quantum array? The key is that we have the conditions to do so, and the temptation is too great."
Lin Sen: "You're talking about using the cognition of four individuals to form a cognitive quantum matrix, making them into an induction array."
"Tyler entered Quantum Space, and he can resonate cognitively with Hines, forming a pair. Didn't you say that this kind of cognitive resonance occurs only once in millions of people? So, who are the other two individuals?
"And how do you plan to establish an induction array with these four individuals?"
Marcus: "The third person is you."
Lin Sen: "Me? You mean my brainwave frequency is close to that of Hines and Tyler, and through Mind Tactility I can also achieve cognitive resonance with Hines?"
Marcus: "Exactly, it's incredibly rare for the average person to have matching brainwave frequencies, but you are the exceptions. It's too much of a coincidence, actually, I can hardly believe it, it's a one in a billion chance. Even more coincidentally, it occurred simultaneously in three Wallfacers.
"Perhaps it's also a kind of destiny. All of you are among the most intelligent and rational individuals in human society, you all share common traits. Perhaps it's these characteristics that make your brainwaves so astonishingly similar, allowing you all to achieve unparalleled success. And precisely because of this success, you were all selected as Wallfacers."
Lin Sen: "Alright, but even with me included, that's only three individuals. Who is the last one?"
Marcus: "For the last individual, we are taking somewhat a gamble. We don't have her brainwave data, and can only infer through her achievements. She may well be equal to you in ability. It is highly likely that her brainwave frequency is consistent with yours."
"She is your cousin... known in the military as the 'martial battle goddess,' Lin Yun."
Lin Sen, "My cousin, wasn't she killed in that explosion?... I see, you believe she didn't die either, just transformed into quantum life. Can Tyler find her by entering Quantum Space?"
"They all exist in the form of probability clouds, and the chances of encountering each other are too slim. Furthermore, her brainwave frequency might not align with ours. Is it worth it to gamble on such a possibility?"
Marcus, "We all think... it's worth it.
"The probability is low, but it's worth trying. You gave us hope when we were desperate, and we don't want to let down your expectations. This chance is worth everything we've got.
"For a long time, we worshipped you as a god, and every direction you gave was incredibly accurate. Utilizing macroscopic quantum to study fundamental physics may be the only way to deal with Trisolarans now, and it was you who pointed us in the right way.
"And it's not entirely hopeless. Based on our analysis, if you three often engage in mind resonance, it could lead to your cousin completing the final corner."
Lin Sen, "Ah... This era might be the best one, because we have you all, so everything is worthwhile. So what is the purpose of this four-person Mind Tactility quantum induction array?"
Marcus, "It plays two important roles:
"First, it enables instantaneous communication among the four of you, similar to a Z-particle induction array of four Sophons. Tyler can transmit information from Quantum Space to you.
"Even Tyler and Lin Yun can help you scout the enemy, as we also observe them from higher dimensions, and they cannot prevent it.
"To some extent, this is also our 'Sophon.' If the enemy has it, we need it too, and it makes the battlefield transparent for us.
"This is also Tyler's response to Wallfacer; we don't care about 'Lord, no care.' If their history could produce the human-formation computer, we can now have the human-formation quantum induction.
"Second, the four of you together can control macro-electron pairs of matter and antimatter. This is why Hines became quantum life by using an anti-macro-electron, and it's also a conclusion Tyler derived after long calculations.
"Controlling a macro-electron pair includes two aspects: control of state and control of movement.
"You can influence the quantum oscillator within the macro-electron pairs through mind resonance, causing the pairs to enter an excited state.
"This differs from macro-fusion-style excitation; it's a stable kind of excitation. Once excited, the macro-electron pair will form a vast quantum field, potentially spanning tens of thousands of kilometers.
"Of course, macro-fusion-style excitation is also possible, but calling it macro-fusion isn't quite accurate since macro-electrons are essentially two-dimensional electrons, and fusion doesn't produce much energy.
"But in reality, it releases tremendous energy. Through our research, we now understand that this energy comes from causing dimensional collapse, not from the energy released by macro-electron waves, which is far less powerful.
"Originally, the motion of macro-electron pairs was very slow, but quantum life can use the resonance of four minds to move the pairs to an embedded point in thought via the quantum oscillator. This speed can reach the speed of light.
"The macro-electron pairs Tyler found are being well protected. They believe that only you have the right to decide how to use them in the future."
PS: How to understand Sophon borrowing space energy. Microscopically, energy fluctuations surge like tides, and pairs of positive and negative energy can spontaneously appear and quickly annihilate in the vacuum, seemingly without any effect. However, when a pair of positive and negative energies come into being, Sophon takes away the positive energy, leaving behind negative energy (so irritating).
Similar to Hawking radiation, pairs of virtual and real particles can spontaneously form and then annihilate in space, seemingly without any effect. However, if a pair of virtual and real particles form on the inside and outside of a black hole's event horizon, the real particle outside can escape, while the virtual particle inside cannot run away (once it's in, there's no escaping). The virtual particle combines with a real particle inside the black hole and then annihilates.
This effectively reduces the mass of the black hole, as mass has escaped. The principle behind the Black Hole Drive Engine in science fiction is to harness the Hawking radiation of a small black hole to power spacecraft. The advantage is that it can use anything as its fuel, but the downside is if the black hole becomes too massive.
