Several clothes were scattered across my bed and a few trailed on the floor.
I stood before my wardrobe, with creased eyebrows and my hands rummaging through my clothes.
After a short search, I pulled out a co-operate style dress and walked up to Kiki who sat at my reading table and was snacking away at the chocolates she met in my fridge.
"Is this good enough?" I asked, sounding defeated.
Her eyes scanned the dress I placed against my body but her mouth never left the chocolate wrap.
I thought Kiki would help me out but now, it all seemed like she was only going to mock me.
She first savoured the remnants of the chocolate before she finally decided to pay attention to me.
"Dear Tilda, the only fine girl that I know. Abeg, wetin be this?" She burst into laughter at the end of her sentence.
"I mean, you know how to style your clothes on a normal day but look at you now, picking out something that even my grandma would not wear if she had a white collar job," She added.
I rolled my eyes and threw the dress at her.
"I don't blame you," I hissed.
"Na so the boy fine?" Kiki poked her head forward as she watched me return to my wardrobe.
"Shut up, Kiki," I pouted. "It's not a date like you think. He's really fine by the way."
"Hmmm, I hear you. It's not a date and you're trying so hard to look stunning when you already are," She chuckled and tore open another chocolate wrap.
At the end of the day, I went with something simple - my favourite hoodie and a pair of cargo pants with sneakers to match.
However, Kiki helped style my hair. She was good at styling natural hair so that was a problem already solved.
"Can't you see how beautiful you look even in just a simple fit? Next time don't strive so hard to impress anyone," Kiki playfully pushed the side of my head.
"I hear you, my madam," I answered with a smile.
I decided not to have my driver take me to my destination.
Although he served me, he still worked for my mother and I didn't want her prying in my bids.
Kiki and I left the house after letting my mother know we were off. At least, she thought we were both going out together.
After Kiki had made it off to her aunt's place, I flagged down a taxi that took me to my stop.
With the help of the directions Miles had previously sent to me, the driver was able to get me there.
As soon as I paid off the driver, I was now face to face with the gates of a place I never knew existed in Abuja.
"Are you sure this is where he meant?" My forehead creased and I looked at his text again.
It was the exact same place I was at.
"You were really just going to stand there and not find out from me?"
The voice that came up behind me made me turn to see its owner.
"I-I-I just wanted to..." I just trailed off, knowing fully well that my mouth wasn't going to help me anyways.
Besides, he was dressed in simple clothes as well and still, he looked handsome as always.
"Hi," I finally said.
"Hey," He briefly waved then gestured for me to come with him through the gates before us.
"What exactly is this place? Never been here before," I asked him as my eyes surveyed my surroundings. This was another display of nature at its peak - from the neatly trimmed carpet grasses to the tall colourful trees and the streams and sparkling ponds that graced some areas.
"It's just a greenery park. Beautiful, right?" He gazed at me as he asked.
"It is," I answered.
We walked past more beautiful displays of greenery till we reached the base of a hill that was covered in grasses and beautiful flowers.
"Wanna see the beauty from up there?" Miles proceeded to ask me.
"I don't know. I'm really afraid of heights. Any level away from the ground, to be precise," I nervously laughed.
"I'll help you up then," He said and stretched his hand.
My heart skipped a beat for a moment there before I gathered the courage to place my hand in his.
His hand felt warm yet rather soft and at that point, I didn't feel like letting it go.
Call me crazy or weird but that was how his hand actually felt.
He led me up the hill slowly and made sure he got me to a higher step first before he would then join me.
As soon as we got to the top, though the fear of heights was still lurking at the back of my mind, I exclaimed out of surprise.
"Oh my God! It's so beautiful from up here!" I placed both hands over my mouth after he let my hand go.
"I knew you would like it just like I did," He pulled up a half smile. "I brought you here just because I thought I should help you get out of your shell even if it's just this little."
"Thank you so much," I brightly smiled. "I'd love to keep on coming here."
"Anytime you want. I'll be willing to come with you," He assured me.
"Really?" I let out a squeal like a child of three who was eager to get a new toy.
"Sure," He nodded.
"You should smile more," I pouted my lips as I gazed at him. "You seem like someone who is fighting a battle everytime I see you."
"I try," He sighed and pulled up a half smile before moving to sit on the hilltop. I joined him.
"The air smells so sweet," I deeply inhaled.
Maybe staying in such a place for too long had a strange effect on me and trust me, you wouldn't want to know what happened next.
