Will you?

We spent quite some time at the cemetery before I decided that it was time to leave.

I didn't want to stay out too late today since there wasn't really anything to do outside.

Making our way out of the cemetery called for another nice walk and a sweet conversation...great conversation, I mean.

"How do I know your dad likes me?" Miles squinted his eyes and twisted his lips.

"I don't like you so he definitely doesn't," I nodded with all confidence. "I am very sure of that."

"I think otherwise," He shrugged and slipped his hands back into the pockets of his pants.

"You wish," I released a small chuckle. "So I was invited to this birthday party of a classmate of mine and I was wondering if you would like to come with me. More like a guest I brought along, you know."

He watched me silently as I tried all I could to swerve his mind from one thought and look for several ways to break down what I meant.

"So you see it's a party and inviting someone along with me will make it more lively. I would have invited any other person to go along with me and my bestie but, I just thought that you seem like a really bored person that needs to get out for once. It's nothing too serious though. You can reject my offer."

"Clearly speaking, you're asking me out on a date?" He raised both eyebrows and a smirk etched on his lips. "I never knew you could use such parables to convey your message."

"A date?" I poked my head forward and scoffed. "W-w-why would I want to ask you out on a date?"

His smirk broadened into a half smile.

"I have the looks that would make you want to do so."

I sighed in defeat. I was not powerful enough to swerve his mind from thinking that we would be going to the party as a date.

"Will you?" I asked.

"Sure. I just told your dad that I was going to protect you so going to the party with you will probably be my first duty," He slowly nodded.

As soon as we got into his car, he started it and we were off.

Not too long after the drive had begun, he took a quick glance at me from the steering wheel.

"Are you hungry?" He asked.

"No. Not really," I shook my head. "You?"

"No. How about we go somewhere nice from here?"

"Somewhere like?" I found myself getting interested in the words that left his mouth and at the same time, failing my resolution to return home early.

"An Arcade. What do you think? I haven't visited that place in a while now."

"That'd be great," I said full of excitement.

At least, it was just 5:26pm now and that was still early, I assured myself.

So, our next stop after the Olusegun Cemetery was an Arcade. It was quite a famous one that attracted a great number of people everyday.

The arcade was a show of sights and sounds. Lights flashed and sirens blared, while the whir of air hockey sticks and clacking pinballs created a constant background noise. The smell of pizza and popcorn filled the air, mixing with the distinct scent of sweat and musty carpet. Huddled around the arcade games were clusters of gamers, some engrossed in their games while others jeered and cheered their friends on. It was a frenzied atmosphere, with an energy that was both exhilarating and exhausting.

I was actually never the type to go to arcades but today, I wasn't willing to leave this place just yet until I had, had my fun.

Miles and I moved over to cades that were situated side by side.

"Let's see who makes it to the highest score," Miles cracked his knuckles as he dared me to a game of Space Invaders.

"Just you wait and see how fast i can adjust to something I don't usually do," I smiled with the assurance that I was definitely going to win.

Miles sent me an upsidedown smile, signifying that it would only happen in my greatest dreams.

The battle between us started and heated up as time passed by.

While Miles had all his focus on the game before him, I was sweating like a Christmas goat just barely a minute into the game. I peeked at his game and saw his current score was a 92 yet I was still battling on how to reach 50.

"This one is just cheating. Abeg stop it," I scrunched my face in disappointment as soon as the game ended and he was the one left with the highest score.

"Cheating? For where? How?" The look on his face showed that he found my unnecessary tantrums amusing.

"We will play again. We must play again. This one is pure ojoro, you cannot tell me otherwise.

"Ok madam," He broke into a thin smile.

We started again and still, he ended up with the higher score. This time around, his score was even higher than that of the previous game.

"Do you still think that this is ojoro?" His eyes lazily moved to my face.

I folded my arms across my chest and pouted my lips in defeat.

"It's just because I didn't want to show my real strength. I was just taking pity on you and trust me, next time I will not take it easy on you."

"You need to take better lessons on how to cover up your shame of defeat," He shook his head and patted my shoulder.

"We should play another one now. I will show you my true strength," I snapped my fingers.

"It's not only true strength you will show, you will go into Super Saiyan mode," He couldn't hold his laughter anymore.

If only I was tall enough, I would have slapped his head effortlessly but as it was now, I would need a little effort to even tap his head.

However, I pointed out another set of cades we should try. As we arrived in front of the cades, I noticed a girl next to the one I decided to use.

Although she had her back turned to me, I could recognize her very well.

"Kiki," I called.

She turned around to face me and a sigh of relief escaped her.

"I wanted to call you over just now," She pulled me into her embrace. "Oh my baby boo, I missed you so much."

"I missed you too," I hugged her as well for a short while before we released each other and that was when she took note of the "handsome" boy behind me.

"Ah ah Tilda, you brought your boyfriend along?" Kiki winked at me.

I rolled my eyes.

"How many times will I tell you nau? He is not my boyfriend," I playfully tapped her on the head.

"We're just friends," Miles chipped in.

"Omo see voice o. Tilda you hit jackpot sha," Kiki wasn't even ashamed to say that.

If there was anything I wanted to do now, it was to cry for her.

"I'm her best friend, by the way," Kiki smiled at him. "I know we've met before but that wasn't proper."

She held out her hand for a handshake and Miles took it.

"So you're the one who stays every step of the way both in sorrow and joy," He simply said.

"Excuse me?" Kiki blinked several times to try and get what he was saying.

I was as confused as she was too.
