I don't want to get killed for no reason

~ KIKI'S POV ~

"But you know what?" He continued. "It's no use arguing with you. You don't know what it feels like to be in a true relationship where you both love each other."

He sighed and left me to the quietness I no longer wanted.

I huffed a load of air and used my hands to fan over my eyes to prevent the hot tears that slowly formed at the corners.

"That idiot," My voice cracked.

I stood up immediately after and made my way back to class with the "idiot" walking in the far distance ahead of me.

When I got back to class, I saw everyone leaving for the assembly and so I joined them. That was when I spotted Tilda and Tobi going from class to class, sending students who looked for means to avoid the assembly to the assembly hall.

"Babe, where have you been?" I went to meet her, standing at the door of the JSS2B classroom while Tobi was in the class, making each and every of the students left.

She sighed, and hissed afterwards.

"I had a small problem at home. My mum and her dramas but, just forget that one," She placed a hand on my shoulder.

"I honestly do not feel like attending the assembly but, what do you think the principal will say of me now that I'm a prefect?" I pouted.

"Ee! You don tire?" Tilda laughed. "U don tire for prefect? So fast?"

"Abeg shut up," I playfully tapped her across the shoulder.

It was at that time that Tobi came up to us, after all the students had emptied the classroom. His eyes fell on my face and a feeling of shame I couldn't stand, overwhelmed me.

"I-I I think I'll go no-now," I rushed over my words and left for the assembly I was thinking of running away from a second ago.

*.*.*.

~ TILDA'S POV ~

Seeing Kiki's actions, I remembered I hadn't talked to Tobi yet, regarding why her mood suddenly turned sour at the party.

"What happened?" I folded my arms across my chest and moved to stand in front of him.

"To the assembly hall!" I ordered two girls whom were trying to sneak their way back to their classes.

"Yes senior," They scurried past us.

"What do you mean?" He asked me, genuinely confused.

"With Kiki. She hasn't been herself since I left her with you. What did you do, Tobi?" I asked, my expression demanding a straightforward answer.

He ran his fingers through his hair, shut his eyes closed, and releases a sigh.

"I don't like her," He said. "That's what happened."

"And..." I was cut short by his next line of words.

"Did you expect me to lie about my feelings to someone I'm not interested in?" His eyes flew open and he was staring hard at me. "Yes, I know I was wrong about the way I left her hanging but, that doesn't mean I should lie to please her just because she's your friend."

He paused and his eyes narrowed to slits.

"She's the reason you never get close to me like you used to since I told you how I feel. I have never felt this way about any girl and I don't think I'll ever be able to. I really like you, Tilda and I don't know when that's going to change."

As he spoke, my folded arms loosened and guilt stared hard at me in the face.

Tobi didn't do anything wrong. I-it was me...

"You know what, I was wrong for making her feel so down with how I responded. I'll apologize. I already planned to, anyways. Let's just end this here, Tilda," He sighed and I could see the pain in his eyes.

Both he and Kiki were suffering from the same thing yet, I never took a chance to pay attention to his, because Kiki was my best friend.

"I-I I'm sorry," My eyes fell.

"You don't have to be," He walked away with that.

I sighed and followed behind him. We needed to be at the assembly as head boy and head girl since we had emptied the classes of deviant students.

The assembly took place as usual but this time, with the presence of the new school prefects.

When we returned to class, the first subject we had was Geography. Geography was to last for two periods and that got a lot of us frustrated.

Not many of us in the science class enjoyed the subject and besides, also not many of us planned on taking up a course in the university that would have to do anything with it.

Mr. Philips, our Geography teacher was a likeable man but, the subject was just what failed to keep us intrigued.

As he moved on to teach us about rocks - which literally felt like the number one topic that was taught every session in Geography, a few students feigned attentiveness. I could spot Vivian doing a snapchat video with her seatmates while the teacher sketched something on the board as he explained.

Kiki was busy watching WhatsApp statuses and literally many of the inattentive ones, were on various social media platforms.

"Madam put that thing away," I scolded her.

"Wetin I wan use am do?" She hissed, referring to the topic on the board.

"When exam time comes, I will not borrow you my notes o," I told her and that was enough for her to reluctantly put the phone away.

"Why must they teach us rock all the time nau?" She pouted and squinted at the board.

Just then, we heard Mr. Philips voice and soon, learnt that he was scolding the popular boy group in our class.

"Miles, you want these boys to spoil you with talking? You haven't even been here for up to month and they are already initiating you? They're all intelligent but they talk too much" Mr. Philips didn't seem pleased.

"Sir, I just wanted him to hand over my note back," Miles spoke in his defense.

"Oya carry the note and go sit with someone more quiet," Mr. Philips fondled with his beard and his eyes searched the class for that "more quiet" person.

"Go and sit with Tilda," He said. "Kiki leave there and come sit here. I want to see your face well since you like to disturb too."

"Ah," Kiki opened her mouth in shock. She couldn't protest and so, she packed her note alongside her pen and left the seat.

Since our other seatmate was not in school that day, it was Miles and I alone in the seat.

God why nau?

"Better," Mr. Philips nodded and continued sketching on the board.

"After trying to run and hide, fate still brought us side by side. Crazy," Miles shook his head, a smirk etched on his lips.

Not even a letter could come out from my mouth as I stared at him in disbelief.

It was as if I should have sworn for Mr. Philips for doing this.

"I haven't been running away. I just don't want to get killed for no reason," I bluntly replied and that sparked a slight twitch in his movement.
