Disappearing into thin air

The next day of school came and Miles didn't come. Believe me when I say I was scared to the point that I started making out theories as to why he hadn't come to school.

"Why would he suddenly disappear after telling me of the so-called special ability he had?"

"Abi had he gone to offer my name to his marine kingdom as one of those who figured out his truth?"

"Or had he run away after confessing just like the in movies?"

"God I said it that he was not pure! Hey what have I gotten myself into?"

"Is he planning something against me all of a sudden for listening in on his conversation?"

I was crazy for letting all these thoughts go through my mind, I know but, if someone else had been in my position I can bet that they would have been bringing a Bible and anointing oil with them to school every day.

Another day came and Miles still hadn't shown up to school. My curiosity took the best of me as always and I was forced to inquire from Chinedu. Eric was a loud mouth and maybe if I inquired from him, he would come to a conclusion that I had a crush on the blue-eyed boy.

"Why are you always looking for him?" Chinedu asked as we walked together to the staff room. "Is he owing you money or something?"

"No o. Well...well, my notebook is with him and I'm worried. Tests are coming up and I have to read," I quickly looked for an excuse.

"I see," Chinedu nodded. "Well sha, I don't know where he is. He left that day and we haven't been able to keep in touch with him since then. He and Aaron, I don't even know who is even more mysterious sef."

Aaron...

Maybe Aaron would know. Now, I was starting to wonder if Aaron wasn't a manipulator like Miles. What if they were from the same kingdom? They were both mysterious and handsome - Definitely only such powerful beings could be so blessed all round.

"Ok thanks. I do hope he returns soon because I can't afford to fail my test," I twisted my lips.

Chinedu hissed. "Una nor dey tire for first and second position. Let the rest of us breathe please."

A chuckle escaped me.

"Don't go and read," I used my elbow to nudge his shoulder.

After I submitted my note on the English teacher's desk in the staff room, I immediately made way in search of Aaron.

I couldn't find him in class at first but then, I found him in the music class. It was quiet in there and he was just surveying the newly bought musical instruments while he listened to music through his headphones.

"Aaron!" I called out to him from the door of the well-furnished music class but he didn't respond nor look in my direction.

I rolled my eyes, matched up to him, and tugged at his sleeve.

"Mr. Aaron," I called.

That was when he noticed my presence and quickly took off his headphones.

"Hey Tilda," He greeted.

"I've been calling you. You just block your ears like what somebody doesn't understand," I expressed my displeasure.

"Sorry," He simply answered. "How may I help you?"

"Do you know where Miles is?" I asked.

"Miles?" He squinted his eyes. "He isn't in school so how am I supposed to know where he is?"

"I know that. Aren't you his friend?" I raised an eyebrow.

"He's part of the gang but he hasn't spoken to us since that day he suddenly left. Unlike him though. He's probably busy with something at home," He shrugged.

"You do have a point. Well, um thanks," I pursed my lips and slowly nodded.

"No problem," He then placed his headphones back over his ears and I returned to class, anxiety still coursing through my veins.

The third day came. It was a Friday and Miles hadn't still returned to school.

He was supposed to play in the basketball game which was to be held between SS3A boys and SS1A boys. Since he wasn't available, Osamuyi Akugbe was to replace him.

The basketball game was held in the school court as always. It was an indoor court like the ones shown in American movies.

"I just can't help it anytime I see him," Kiki sighed, her eyes never leaving the tall dark-skinned handsome young man whom she liked so much.

"Take it easy, girl," I nudged her with my elbow and she laughed.

We were supporters of our class team, of course.

"Up SS3A boys!" Kiki, me, Lola, and Sandra chanted as we held up large fan cards on which, "Work it you SS3A boys!" were written.

You should know by now that the writeup was Kiki's idea.

Tobi, Usman from SS1A's team, and Aaron were the stars of game. They had quite a large fan base in the spectators who were majorly girls as usual.

The game ended on a successful note for the SS3A teams. I mean, we were just too talented in our class.

As soon as our boys won, the small supporters team of me, Kiki, Lola, and Sandra played a little song from Lola's MP3 to which we did a short choreography while waving our cards in the air.

"Hey I love the way you work it!" Kiki's voice was the loudest as we sang alongside while Lola's dance moves were the most aggressive.

Well, we couldn't blame her. She was just trying to impress her man in the court.

At the end of school that day, I had something drastic in my mind to do. I didn't know why I was bothered about it but I felt inclined to do so.

I met up with Chinedu again.

"This girl what is it again?" He laughed as soon as I came up to him with chants of, "Chinedu! Chinedu! The one and only Chinedu! Any other one is a counterfeit!"

"I just have one last request. I need my note for the weekend so do you know Miles' house address by any chance?" I asked, hoping that he did.

"No," He shook his head.

"Oh God. What will I do now?" I dramatically held my waist like a frustrated mother.

"Don't worry. Tobi does. They're the closest," He quickly added. "I'll ask him for you."

"Oh ok. Thank you. Text me once you get it," I said and left to meet up with Kiki. Deep down in me, I prayed that Chinedu wouldn't mention that I was the one who needed the address to Tobi. What if he decided to take me there by himself instead?
