Is it my dream?

~ TILDA'S POV ~

My hands nervously fumbled with my phone as I poked my head forward, keeping my gaze towards the lane ahead on my right.

After a few minutes, I let out a sigh and relaxed my back against the bench.

I proceeded to glance at my phone for the umpteenth time.

4:23pm

Maybe he was on his way... Perhaps there was a traffic?

I waited patiently after convincing myself but then, the thoughts refused to go away.

Did he forget? Or was he just ignoring me?

I dialed his number for the fifth time and the same voice message rang in my ears.

"The number you have dialed is not reachable at the moment. Please try again later. Thank you."

"This boy sef," I hissed and placed my phone back into the pocket of my trouser. "Why doesn't he just pick up?"

Even at that, I still had hope. Hope that he would come and I continued waiting.

4:30pm...5:00pm...5:20pm

I dialed his number again and I received the same response.

I felt my heart sink at that moment. Why had I even bothered so much to come out with me? Maybe he had purposely ignored me because he thought I was a pest. Did he really think of me as that?

*.*.*.

I scooped each spoon of ice cream into my mouth violently, my expression full of anger.

As I ate, I panted like a bull who was ready to attack its opponent.

"Ah ah what is the meaning of this?" Kiki eyed me. "You be goat?"

I simply ignored her and continued my violent eating.

"Babe!" She exclaimed and snatched the spoon from my hand. "Why you dey disgrace yourself?"

I sighed and clenched my fists resting on the table.

"It's... nothing," I looked elsewhere.

"Then why were you eating like that?" She asked, wide eyed.

"I'm just so angry at how Sharon acts and I can't get that fact out of my head," I lied.

Since Miles had failed to show up, I was making my way back home at exactly 6:00pm when I got a call from Kiki to meet her at Mat-ice. Despite getting to eat ice cream with my best friend, I was still angry that Miles didn't show up nor did he pick any of my calls.

She suddenly hissed and handed my spoon back.

"Because of that one, you want to make a fool out of yourself in public. Abeg enjoy your self o. The time you are using to think about someone that has annoyed you will be enough for you to ease and satisfy yourself. You're just the one wasting your time to think about her when she barely even remembers you exist."

She was right. Miles was definitely not even thinking about me right now, yet I was wasting my energy to be so angry about him not meeting up with me.

"You know what?" I was starting to eat gently as I savoured the sweet blend of vanilla and chocolate ice cream in my mouth. "You're right."

"Gbam!" Kiki snapped her fingers and resumed eating from her own bowl of ice cream as well.

*.*.*.

I stepped out of the classroom and into the lobby when I saw him coming from the opposite direction.

With my mind made up, I lifted my chin and held my head up high.

Today was not going to be like any other day. Today, I wasn't going to play Miss. "I wanna talk you so bad."

I took majestic steps forward. Our eyes locked in as we both moved closer and closer.

' Not today, Miles Wesley. Those eyes of yours can do nothing,' I thought to myself.

Luckily, I was able to walk past him without saying "hi" nor did I act like I had seen him.

I continued in the same fashion for long hours that day - Pretending like I had no idea of his existence. And guess what? It actually got a reaction out of him.

"Tilda, please pass me my pen," He said to me in Geography class after accidentally losing his pen across our table.

I simply ignored every word that left his mouth and continued copying my notes.

He raised an eyebrow at me but didn't bother to say anything for the second time. He simply had to stretch over to get back his pen.

He should have waited for me nau

Mtchewwww

Even during the break period, we were both the last people to leave the class. I was trying to take out my ear pods from my bag while he came to stand a few metres away from my seat.

"Tilda, why have you been ignoring me since the beginning of Today's classes?" He asked calmly.

I immediately went into humming one of Billie Eilish's songs, "Happier than Ever," and continued searching for my ear pods.

"Tilda," He called me again but no avail.

When I finally found my ear pods, I smiled and said, "Found you, my baby."

I zipped up my school bag and started heading out of the class.

But as I was about to walk past him, he grabbed me by the way.

A startled look came on my face as my eyes went up to his face.

"Are you mad? Let go," I sounded surprised than annoyed.

"You haven't answered my question," His eyes never for once left my face.

Oh so...he knew that those eyes of his carried some kind of power behind them that kept on drawing me into them anytime I stared in for too long.

"I-I... Miles leave me," My voice came in almost a whisper.

He sighed and left me.

Strangely, I didn't walk out on him.

Tilda, this isn't what we planned!

"Are you angry at me?" He asked softly.

Oh so he knew!

"Yes!" I finally gathered the courage to say so. "I am angry at you, Miles. Do you know how long I waited for you? I called and you didn't even bother to even flash me back at least. You just ignored me like I'm nobody."

"About that..." His voice trailed off. "I couldn't make it due to stuff I had to take care of at home and my phone wasn't with me."

"Is that so?" My gaze softened and my voice become low.

He nodded.

"I-I...I didn't know. I...am sorry," I bit my lower lips and my gaze fell.

What was I thinking? Since the day at the beach, I still had one thought but I wasn't too sure of it.

Miles didn't seem to have things great at home just like me.

His next line of words caused me to return to reality.

"What if I had even gone to meet you at the park? What would we have done?" He asked, a half smile pulling up on his lips.

"Wh-what do you mean?" I eyed him. "I wasn't too serious about it by the way."

"You seemed way too serious," He tsked. "I guess, you can't resist my handsomeness any longer."

"In your dreams," I scoffed.

His expression suddenly turned serious and he moved closer to me.

My eyes remained blankly on his face. I didn't even move.

Before I could realize what was going on, he gently wrapped his right arm around my waist and pulled me against him.

"W-what are y-y-y," I couldn't even finish my sentence because of how bad I was stuttering. My heart was beating very loudly and I wondered if he could hear it.

For some reason, I didn't struggle to free myself. Besides, his grip wasn't firm.

At first I was worried about someone walking in on us, then I remembered that he wouldn't let that happen.

My eyes remained on his face that inched towards mine with every passing second. His face stopped moving towards mine when there was little space between ours.

"Is this my dream?" His voice came calmly and I sensed my heart skip a beat.
