Sam's POV*******
Three weeks have passed ever since the bet I and Angel made.
We weren't to the park almost every day, she'd ride me everywhere on her bike and we had... Fun.
I was loving every moment I spent with her. I was already starting to look forward to the next day when I was at home. I'd always be ready at my door for her to pick me up. It was torture, feeling my heart beat with such feeling, but it was sweet torture.
The Sam everyone knows was the kind of Sam that didn't talk to anyone, yet here I was, talking with the school's weirdo everyday.
The Sam everyone knew would never get attached to someone, but I was always by her side whenever I was free.
The Sam everyone knew would NEVER step a toe nail in Class C.
But I still went there once in a while, just to see her beautiful smiling radiant face.
It was still very... Um... Uncomfortable.... In Class C, but I ignored all the struggles because of her.
Because I knew, if I didn't see her for one day, I'd lose it.
We had gotten really closer over the past few weeks. I felt like I was on cloud 9.
I saw many different sides to her. She was funny, annoying, very emotional, and just... Odd...
I don't want to nag her or anything but, being emotional wasn't a very good sign. I had to give up my emotions because I didn't want to get hurt again, but she still cared, she still cared for people even if they used her. I'll always admire her for that. I am not ready to be broken by people.
Also, she was odd in the sense that her mind just... Wanders off.
Like, it takes it's two legs and walks off. Most of the time, in class, she never listens to the teacher. She just stared at him, blankly, as though lost in thought. It looked a little bit creepy. As though, she were planning a murder. Huh.
And she watched the weirdest things. How can a 17 year old hate movies for crying out loud?! I was obsessed with Marvel and she was always on and on about Walt Disney or Dreamworks movies. Everyday was an imaginary day with her. Pfft.
It was fun just listening to her talk about cartoons and animations. She's pretty obsessed with that.
Also, did I mention that she was goal-driven?
Yeah. She has a goal to be the upcoming and rising Walt Disney. It sounded silly to me, but when she talked about her ideas, I knew she wasn't joking. She was really into this story stuff.
And one of the reasons why people thought she was weird was simply because she didn't like movies and because she hated both kdrama and anime. Couldn't she at least be into anime?
Another reason was that she spaced out a lot. And a major reason was because she just spouted the weirdest stuff, she was so shameless, and she was just so happy all the time about everything. She could say practically anything and shrug it off like it's no big deal, she could also get insulted by a classmate and still hangout with the person the very next day with no hard feelings .
She'd even ask me questions like "What if they made wands out of meteorites? Would that make the wizard colossally powerful?"
"Why are you asking this?"
"What if boxes came to life?"
"What?"
"Ever thought a demon could hate being a demon?"
"The..."
"Can there be a super power like sword ship?
"Heck..."
"I think Cholow is better than Alastor. You?"
"I don't even know who Cholow is"
"Oh, he's a character in my story. He’s a bunny-man and uses dust magic"
"I think that's what they call 'Rip-offs', Angel. Also... A dust bunny? That's the best you could think of?"
She would just space out like it's a normal thing for her. Then, when she's clearly having a sugar rush, she asks you questions as though you were brain storming with her the entire time!
Sometimes, when she does that, it's even scary, because she's just quiet and looking at you as though she's coming for you in the midnight to attack you.
Yup! She's amazing.
The funniest part is that she's really smart. She's not an average student. She's a bit of an 60-80 range student and that shocks me.
~~~
I was waiting eagerly for her to arrive. Where was she? She's 30 minutes late.
"Honey, why don't you take the bus to school today. It looks like she's not going to show up" said mom as she patted my shoulder.
I sighed "It's just... She comes everyday. She would never stand me up... Right?"
My mom shook her head "Of course not. Maybe something came up at home. You don't want to be late now. Come on"
I smiled and left. I was soooo going to give Cat girl a good yelling at when I see her at school.
As expected, I took the bus and I suddenly missed her warmth.
I got off and walked into the halls. There were few people walking around. I walked to her class, hoping to find her there, but I didn't. She wasn't in her seat, asleep or drawing or writing.
I started to feel down but I shook my head and straightened up.
She's probably just late
Yes. That must be it. Tch. Typical Class C students. Never committed to school, eh?
They rung the bells for class and I sat there, wondering why she hadn't stepped in the hallways.
I sighed and tried to focus on what the teacher was saying.
"Mr. Lenard. Can you give us an example?"
My head snapped up towards the teacher and I felt their everyone's eyes on me.
I gulped. I didn't even know the question.
Goddamit! I don't even know what class this is!
Oliver slid a note unto my desk and whispered "The question"
I looked down slowly and read the question. That was easy. I told the teacher my answer and he nodded.
"Very correct, as expected of you, but may I ask, Mr. Lenard, what's making you lose focus in my class?"
I shook my head as my cheeks heated up "No reason, sir. I'm sorry. I was just spacing out for a bit"
The teacher nodded his head and turned back to the board.
I let out a deep breath and whispered a "Thanks" to Oliver. His eyes widened and he smiled back.
Soon enough, it was time for lunch and I expected her to come over to my class like always, but she never arrived.
I checked her class again and even tried asking some of her friends, Elliot, a class B student, and Beatrice, from class C.
"Umm... H-have you two seen Angel around? I was wondering..."
Elliot flashed me a crooked smile of his "Oh hey, Sam. Been a while, eh? No. I haven't seen her"
Beatrice nodded "She didn't come to school today"
I stood there shocked "Why?"
Beatrice shrugged "I don't know"
His couldn't she know? They were friends! Didn't she care?! What if she moved away or... Or she died!
No! Cat girl can't die! She won't! She can't!
"I'll call her now..."
I saw Beatrice bring out her phone and dial her number.
Bzzzzzzzzt. Bzzzzzzzzt. Bzzzzzzzzt.
Beep. Beep. Beep
That was it?
"She... She didn't pick up..." Beatrice murmured and stared at her screen blankly.
Elliot frowned "What? The girl always picks up if you call her"
Beatrice frowned "Maybe Ethan should call her..."
Suddenly, a tall yellow skinned boy with brown short spiky hair walked up to us
"I already tried"
I saw another guy with white skin, blue eyes and blonde hair follow him "So have I"
"So... You mean... She hasn't picked any of our calls?" Elliot quipped.
"No. Not at all" the broad blue eyed boy said.
Beatrice shrugged "Oh well. We tried our best. It looks like she doesn't want to be bothered. She probably forgot there was school today"
The others shrugged too and then she turned to me "I've tried, Sam. She just didn't come to school"
I opened my mouth to speak but closed them back.
The boy with blue eyes eyed me "Why do you care? Are you her friend?"
Beatrice turned to him, "Josh, it's because you haven't seen them talking before. He's always in our class to talk to her"
The blue eyed boy, Josh, stared at me in amusement "Samuel Lenard? In Class C?"
Beatrice giggled and looked me up and down, while raising a brow, "I couldn't even believe it too. Looks like Angel bagged a good one, a better one perhaps"
The yellow skinned boy, Ethan casted me a glance "I wouldn't say bag just yet. Guys like him aren't capable of having feelings"
"Yes I am!" I blurted.
They all turned to look at me as though I was shedding my skin! They were talking about me as though I was some kind of liver wort and I was right here!
I cleared my throat, feeling tensed from their gaze "I am... Capable of having feelings"
Beatrice scoffed"Right... And I have 2 kidneys"
"Actually you do..."
I was caught off by her raising her hand to signal me to stop.
"We've done what you've asked us to do. Now, shoo"
She waved her hand like I was a filthy street dog and I gritted my teeth.
I walked away feeling sad and scared. Where was she? Why wasn't she picking her calls? I sat on my desk and brought out a paper bag.
It was tagged 'Angel' on it.
They were chicken nuggets.
Sigh...
I should see her today.
Yes. At least to see what's going on with her. How could she just... Abandon me! I couldn't even last a morning without her. I had to see her. I just had to.
Where... Where does she live??
Fudge!!!
~~~
"Thank you, Richie" I said and waved as I got out of her car.
I had asked Richie for Angel's address and also if she could give me a ride.
At first she frowned "What?! Why?"
I scratched the back of my head "I just... Have something that belongs to her and I wanted to return it"
Richie narrowed her eyes "Just give it to me. I'll return it for you"
I shook my hands nervously "No! Um... It's kind of private... And embarrassing. I'd like to give her myself..."
Richie eyed me up and down and I gulped. I crossed my fingers hoping she would buy it.
"I know her address. I could even give you a ride to her place"
"Really. What's her address?"
"It's *******"
"Oh. That's a bit far... From my place"
Richie looked me in the eye "I see..."
I smiled at her and she turned red.
"Let's go..."
When I got out, I thanked her and she smiled "Anything for you, Sam"
She leaned down hesitantly and placed a kiss on my cheek.
I scrunched my nose at the physical contact. I didn't like it. I knocked the door to Angel's home and an old fair skinned lady looking like she was in her 50s opened the door for me.
"Who..." She asked "Are you?"
I started to sweat. I wanted to make a good first impression on her family "I.. I wanted to see Angel, ma'am..."
The lady narrowed her eyes "You haven't answered my question"
I mentally slapped myself "I... My name is Samuel... Samuel Lenard"
I was cut off by the lady's gasp "Oh! Samuel Lenard?! You really are..."
The woman muttered something and she snapped her head at me again.
"Come inside! Come. Come!" She beckoned.
Well, I think I aced my first impression. Now all I need to do is ask for her daughter's hand in marriage.
What!? I'm desperate and madly in love here.
I looked around their somewhat big house. It was a pretty big bungalow. It was simple and cozy. Huh. Nice.
"Umm... Sit. Sit. Would you like anything? A drink maybe?" The lady asked while staring at me like I was an angel sent from heaven.
"Umm... No thanks. I just wanted to check on Angel. She didn't come to school today and I was wondering..."
The lady stared at me long and hard, then she sighed "Angel... Isn't feeling too well"
Thank God! I mean... That's awful, but still... What a relief. She's not dead.
"Oh. I'm so sorry to hear that... Can I see her?" I asked.
The woman smiled "Of course"
"Thank you, Mrs. Ilves"
The woman muttered something again but I couldn't hear it. She directed me to Angel's room.
"Just upstairs. Her name is on it. You can't miss the door"
I nodded and followed her directions. I saw a door on which the name "ANGEL" was boldly written.
I knocked and I heard sniffling from the inside. My heart sank to the bottom to hear her in pain.
"I'm fine mom... Just... 2 more minutes... P-please..."
I opened the door and I almost passed out at the horrific sight. Angel was in her pajamas surrounded by used tissue.
Her entire face, especially her nose, was red as slightly swollen... She looked horrible.
"Angel" I gasped and ran to her as she turned on the bed.
I was suddenly stopped by a growling white canine on her bed.
I froze. I didn't exactly like dogs, and I wondered how Angel could be sleeping without it without worrying it might eat her or something.
The dog glared at me and I gulped
Angel's eyes fluttered open and I saw how pale they were.
"Sparky? What..."
Her gaze reached me and she seemed to snap out of her daze.
"S-Sam?!"
She sat up almost instantly and tried to hide herself as well as throw all the snotty tissues.
"Sam! Why did you come here?" She groaned.
I frowned when she rubbed her head. Why was she stressing herself? And what kind of question is that anyways? I cared about her well-being...
I held her hand and glared so hard, she gulped.
"Don't move" I ordered and she nodded.
I helped her get rid of the tissues and brought her a new box and some more blankets to use. I also brought a wet towel and placed it on her head to reduce the fever.
"Sam. Stop. Why are you here?"
I narrowed my eyes "What kind of question is that supposed to be?"
She gently pushed my hand away "Still. Answer it"
I frowned. This cat girl...
"Why am I here?! I'm here because you didn't show up today! You didn't pick me up like usual. You weren't in school. You weren't picking your calls. And you were sick! I was worried about you!" I blurted.
I saw her shocked expression and I squirmed internally.
"I was worried about you, okay? I... I..."
I turned to look at her hoping she would say something, but nothing. Nothing came out.
She looked away and after minutes, finally broke the silence "I'm sorry, Sam. I didn't think you'd be that worried... Thank you... For coming to see me"
She turned her gaze to me and I stiffened. There it was again. I tiny spark in those empty dark brown eyes.
I blushed and turned away.
"How long... Will you stay at home?" I asked
She groaned "I don't know... A week maybe?"
A week?! I couldn't even last an hour and you're telling me a week?!
"I hope you get well soon, Angel" I told her.
She smiled weakly and reached for the tissue.
I handed it to her and she sneezed. Not the prettiest sneeze, I'll admit, but it was still cute.
She noticed that I was looking intensely at her and groaned "I didn't want you to see me like this"
I cocked a brow "Why?"
"I look disgusting and... Well... Sick..."
I just giggled at her words. I reached for her hand slowly and smiled at her warmly "Well, maybe you do, but it's better than seeing you dead"
She laughed at my joke and heart swelled with joy.
Suddenly, I felt something furry brush my legs and I saw her dog looking up at me with a glass bottle in it's mouth.
I reluctantly took it and glanced at the bottle.
"Soya... Milk..." I read the contents.
I casted Angel a cold look and a deep frown on my face "Have you been drinking cold drinks?!"
Her ears turned red "N-no! It's nothing!"
My eyes narrowed and she bowed her head in defeat "I'm sorry"
My cold look suddenly melted into that of concern "Why would you do this to yourself? You're only hurting yourself, and you know what's worse? You hurt me when you hurt yourself!"
She looked up at me with her lips forming a thin line.
"I-I'm sorry, Sam"
"Sorry won't magically make you feel better"
She bit her lip and her eyes suddenly lit up. She turned to me with a mischievous smile
"It sure can't... But you know what can?"
I swallowed hard "W-What?"
She held my face gently in her arms and I felt my whole body stiffen.
"You~" she whispered in the most seductive tone.
She leaned in closer and I could feel my body heat up, then...
She laughed.
I almost groaned in disappointment.
I stared at her happy face and I felt my heart beat even faster. I'd be there for her. I want to be there for her.
I pulled her into a hug and smirked "You little tease"
She chuckled and hugged me back "I'm a little pervert. Tease is for amateurs"
I smiled and rubbed her back soothingly.
I felt her lean closer into me and I whispered "You should go to bed, Angel"
She moaned "No... You're here. And... I'm happy... And I want to be... Here... To... Make up..."
"Just being with you here and feeling your presence is enough for me. You should rest, please"
"No..." She whined stubbornly.
I sighed. What was I going to do with this stubborn cat?
I continued rubbing her back and then I felt her entire body weight rest on me in a matter of minutes.
She's asleep.
I laid her down on the bed again to sleep and I tucked her in.
I stared at her sleeping face for a while. It made my heart flutter.
My gaze went down to her lips and I groaned and shook my head.
No! I am not a pervert!
And I'm not wasting my first kiss on a sick sleeping beauty. Maybe when she was awake and healthy? Yeah, maybe...
I bent down and my lips landed on her forehead, lingering on it for a moment.
I pulled away and blushed. I stroked her sleeping face and turned around when I heard a whine behind me.
It was the white dog. What did she call it? Spot?
"Sparky" I called, recollecting the name.
The dogs ears perked up and it stood on guard. It probably didn't see me as a threat anymore.
"Please take care of her for me... I'll be back everyday to check on her. She mustn't do anything to make herself work. Please?"
The dog looked at me with... Are my eyes failing or is that a smile?!
The dog nodded and I was surprised at how smart it was. Of course it was, it's Angel's dog after all, it’s as special as she is.
I reached out my hand to pet it, but was scared it would bite me, so I took it back, but the dog came closer and rubbed it's head on my leg as though to say 'Thank you'.
I stroked its long snow white fur on its head and smiled. It was a different dog. I liked it.
Call me crazy for talking to a dog, but this was Albert Einstein's spirit animal!
I left the room, turning back to take one last look at Angel, cuddling close to her dog.
A smile crept on my face and I left.
