I considered adding [Gravity] as well as [Splitting] which together with [Severing] would make the first strike especially devastating. The reason for this is that [Severing] specialized in cutting soft targets like eyes, skin and flesh while [Splitting] focused on harder targets like scales, carapace and bone. Add on [Gravity] that decreased the resistance felt when lifting the weapon but increased the impact when swinging down you end up with a weapon that was nigh unstoppable once in motion. One solid strike to most monsters necks or limbs and off flies their heads or limbs. With that choice settled that covered five of the seven properties I could add to the weapon.-
The final two however proved ... controversial. See I wanted to add a curse to the weapon so that even if the first strike failed to kill the target it would at least cripple it but Hestia flat out was all like "fuck no!" which kinda put a damper on that idea. Obviously she didn't say exactly that as she didn't really EVER curse but you get the fucking idea. Ophelia thought it was a great idea but sadly the loli goddess had veto privileges. With that option effectively cut off I had to get creative with the last property. Yes I said last and not last two.-
Rather than two weaker properties I decided to add a full cursed technique of a lesser variety to the scythe. Specifically a [Killing blow] type technique. Any technique that activated on the condition of killing something fell into this category. In this particular case I went with [Killing bank] as the technique for the scythe. The way it worked was easily broken down into three parts that each tied to the others in one nice neat technique. -
The three parts were roughly called [Token], [Bank] and [Payout] and flowed from one to the other in exactly that order. [Token] activated the moment this weapon took a life and as the name suggested created a token of sorts per kill. [Bank] simply allowed Ophelia to sorta store those tokens for later. [Payout] was where the technique came full circle and really showed it's potential. See those tokens could be "spent" to increase the damage the next strike the scythe dealt at an increasingly potent amount depending on how many tokens were spent on the "payout".-
The boost a single token gave was miniscule but if say twenty five were spent that was an almost half the power of a normal strike added on top of your actual strikes damage. The technique had the rather large downside however that it took a lot of effort and time to build up enough tokens to really make it shine. Despite that however the technique made Ophelia a monstrous opener or closer in a battle. With enough tokens she could either trivialize a normally hard fight or end one the moment she acted, perfectly in line with an assassin in my not so humble opinion.-
I had no intention of adding the technique to any other weapon however despite the power it offered in time for a single reason. The less unique a thing is the weaker it becomes. Not because the power actually drops but because if it's workings become clear enough counters for it can be made that neutralize it's advantages. Ophelia was distrustful enough that there was almost absolutely no fucking way she would trust anyone with that information or let it slip accidentally. That meant unless I spread it myself or one of her targets somehow survive an encounter with her after she used it that information was secure.-
With the full list of properties for her weapon all settled all that was left was for me to actually craft the thing. I was very careful with the materials I chose for this as if they were too valuable she might get robbed and killed but if they were too weak I'd need to make a second weapon much sooner than I'd like if she grew as fast as Bell or I though I highly doubted that she would. Her soul might be bigger and brighter than the vast majority of those I've seen who weren't gods but that just meant she was very talented and not that she was going to be speed running levels like Bell or I.-
Unlike the two of us she didn't have a way to gather excessive amounts of excelia to fuel her growth and that meant more likely than not she was going to grow at a fast but not extreme pace. Not quite as fast as Ais whose soul was just as big and bright as Bell's but a bit under that was entirely within reason. With that in mind I decided to use level two materials only for her weapon as that would suffice for now.-
I used Ligerfang fangs and claws, Wyvern bones and Crystal mantis blades for the materials here. I carefully refined and shaped the materials into orbs that I then imbued with cursed techniques that held the concepts of the properties I will be adding to the weapon once it was crafted and then set them aside to "set". This would take some time but that was fine as for now the simple nonenhanced scythe being used by Ophelia would do just fine.-
Once I was done with that I was honestly free to do whatever I wanted until my date came up in a day. I couldn't say I wasn't a little nervous about it as I legitimately had no idea what Hephaestus had planned for it. I doubted it would be too extravagant as neither of us cared much for that sort of thing but that left out a lot of date type activities. I didn't want to psyche myself out over nothing though and spent my time relaxing as I waited. And by that I meant napping mostly.-
Sleep was a thing I valued quite a lot despite my active lifestyle as not only was it a way to recharge my proverbial batteries but it also let my mind run free. Had this nasty little thing called restraint when I was awake that I didn't need while I dreamt. Who was going to care if I dreamt of creating giant mechs and using them to beat the shit out of the one eyed black dragon after all?
