"I tried to reason with you" Tisane said in a strange but deep voice as he walked towards Sabrina.
"But it seems like that was pointless"
Sabrina didn't hesitate as she unleashed her weapon again. But this time, unlike before, she was unable to land a single hit on Tisane.
"How is this possible?!!" Sabrina's eyes quaked greatly as she was terrified by the spectacle before her.
Tisane was moving so fast that it seemed as if countless images or multiples of himself were moving along with him. He easily and effortlessly dodged Sabrina's weapon as he moved closer and closer towards her.
Sabrina intensified her attacks as she tried her possible best to deter Tisane from approaching her. She felt the terrible aching feeling from her wrist and her head, which were signs of over exhaustion of her mutant ability.
She and Jerry were not as strong as Matthew, whom was able to channel his mutant powers. The channeling of a mutant power was another step higher to unleashing your true mutant potential.
But Sabrina and Jerry had not yet reached this level, not because their talent was sub par, but because it was not a level that was easily attained. Reaching the current limit of her strength, Sabrina felt fatigue wash over her as her attacks began to falter.
She had never been in this kind of perilous situation before!
She watched as Tisane came closer while dodging and evading her attacks. As he came closer, she felt his murderous intent, which freaked her out to no end.
_"I can't let him get closer, I have to stop him!"_ Sabrina thought as she intensified her attacks despite her apparent exhaustion.
But it was quite pointless, as Tisane seemed to vanish for a second and then appeared before her.
~BOOM!!~
Sabrina wobbled as Tisane's terrifying aura crashed unto her as he seemed to morph into a mountainous ghoul with scarlet eyes that stared her down with the cold gaze of death. While she was being overwhelmed by what she was seeing, Tisane suddenly grabbed her two wrists with an iron like grip as he gave a tight squeeze.
~Crack!~
Like two dried out sticks, Sabrina's wrists snapped under the pressure of Tisane's terrifying grip.
"Ahhh!!" Sabrina screamed in unconcealed agony as a huge wave of pain was sent throughout her body.
But Tisane was not yet done with her, as he grabbed her by the throat and dashed towards the wall.
~Slam!!~
Sabrina instantly coughed out blood as she felt the impact between her back and the wall.
~Hurk~
Sabrina began to choke under Tisane's grip as blood kept pooling from her mouth. She looked into Tisane's eyes and saw nothing but expressionless rage.
She felt her feet dangling in the air as Tisane held her suspended by her throat. He kept squeezing her throat with his iron like grip as life began to fade from her eyes.
She couldn't fight back because her wrists were already broken and her mutant power had been exhausted during their earlier battle.
As Tisane was about to strangle her to death;
~Whoosh!~
A jade dagger whistled through the air as it sped towards Tisane.
Tisane felt the attack few seconds earlier before it came as he vanished from his current position, which made the dagger to embed itself deeply into the wall, leaving Sabrina to slide down from the broken wall in an unconscious state as someone appeared to catch her in his arms. Jerry felt tears gathering in his eyes as he took in the battered and injured state of Sabrina.
Unknown to everyone, Jerry had always been in love with Sabrina ever since he set his eyes on her back in mutant school. It was love at first sight due to her tough and aloof temperament.
Time and time again, he tried to summon the courage to talk to her, but would get cold feet anytime he stood before her. Not until he unfortunately discovered that she was in love with someone else.
At first, he wondered who was capable of winning her heart among the mutant guys in school. Only to discover that it was Matthew whom had gained Sabrina's affection.
At first, he hated Matthew because of this and was looking for an opportunity where he would embarrass him before Sabrina. But after Matthew saved his life, he began to see Matthew in a new light.
Sure, the girl of his dreams was in love with Matthew, but it was something that he decided to tolerate and endure since he began to regard Matthew as a senior brother. But deep within him, he still had that love for Sabrina, though he knew that he may never express it.
And now, seeing her in this tragic state broke his heart to no end. How could he allow the girl he loves to be tortured and beaten so badly?!
He couldn't accept it!
Not even from all the devils of hell!!
"Sabrina can you hear me?!" Jerry called out as he held her in his arms, hoping that she would stir and reply him.
But Sabrina was completely unconscious as even her breathing was very much laboured.
First it was Matthew.
Now it was Sabrina.
He and Melissa were the only ones who were not yet heavily injured but Melissa was still quite unconscious on the floor.
"I warned you all from the beginning" a deep voice spoke behind Jerry; "But you would not listen"
Jerry turned sharply as he gave the owner of the voice a murderous glare. Tisane walked towards him with an expressionless face as he stopped just few meters in front of Jerry.
Jerry watched the cold gaze that Tisane gave him as his heart palpitated in nervousness.
"So what about you?" Tisane asked as he stared at Jerry; "Have you decided to fight me or not?"
Jerry was unable to give an immediate answer to such a question which was more or less a challenge. He could only grit his teeth in rage as he glared at Tisane.
"I guess that settles it then" Tisane said in finality as he walked past Jerry and the unconscious Sabrina.
Tisane didn't act this way because he was being merciful, he acted this way because he was unwilling to indulge his deep dark desires which yearned for death and destruction.
Before Jerry earlier intervened on behalf of Sabrina, Tisane could already feel himself drowning in his pent up desires to tear her to pieces. An act which he almost succeeded in, but for the timely attack of Jerry.
All Tisane truly wanted, was to just see Mr Fadeyemi and explain himself in the best way possible. And engaging in such heinous acts, would spoil his chances with Mr Fadeyemi.
He saw no more reason why Jerry would attack him. If he was in Jerry's shoes, he would know that the difference between his strength and theirs was quite vast.
As he walked towards the door to the executive office, Tisane glanced back at Jerry from the corner of his eye, half expecting Jerry to rise up in righteous anger and attack him. But he saw how Jerry stared at him with a sliver of fear and indecision in his eyes.
~Sigh~
_"The fight is over"_ Tisane affirmed to himself as he turned the door knob and entered the executive office.
Meanwhile......
Jerry watched as Tisane walked into the CEO office. His body shook from the understanding that he couldn't muster enough courage to engage Tisane in battle.
Behind his tough and stubborn facade, Jerry was actually timid when he was faced with overwhelming challenges. He always found it hard to push himself past his limits to overcome mountainous obstacles.
Unbeknownst to anyone but himself, the main reason why he always hesitated to express his feelings to Sabrina was that he was ashamed of the fact she was much more talented than he was. He was always amazed by her fearless and rugged demeanor, which she displayed multiple times during monster raids and inter grade contests.
It was for these reasons that he made sure that in order to be deserving of her affection, then he had to be able to stand on equal grounds or even surpass her. But today just revealed the bitter truth that he was yet to fulfill that goal.
When he watched her battle with Tisane, he saw her tenacious will to overcome someone whom had given Matthew, whom was their strongest, an overwhelming and brutal defeat. Jerry was ashamed of the fact that he was not quick witted enough to come to her aid on time.
Maybe together...
Together they would have been able to defeat Tisane.
Jerry watched Sabrina's battered and exhausted face as a part of him felt a single bit of relief that she was not awake to see his cowardly act of letting their assailant walk free without resistance. He closed his eyes as the realization dawned on him.
He may never be worthy to stand by her side.
