CHAPTER 74 - Mutant Identity

"So my dear boy" Mr Victor said as he sat on the sofa opposite Tisane.

"I want to first congratulate you on your employment"

"Thank you sir" Tisane said with a happy look on his face.

"Actually sir I wouldn't have done it without your help"

"That may be true" Mr Victor nodded.

"But with my help or not, you still have a great future ahead of you"

Tisane saw the look of excitement and glee in Mr Victor's eyes which unnerved him a bit as he averted his eyes and stared into his drink.

"I want to discuss something with you Tisane"

Mr Victor began as he switched on the iPad smartphone on the table and passed it to Tisane who received it with a slightly puzzled expression.

"Tell me what you think about that video"

Mr Victor said as he sipped his drink and watched Tisane intently.

In the video, Tisane saw a group of boys and girls between the teenage and youth age as they displayed powerful and terrifying combat skills.

Mutants.

Tisane narrowed his eyes in recognition.

He was no more a stranger to the identity of mutants as he had gotten a first hand experience due to his battle with Matthew and crew.

Because of that, he was able to easily recognize their signature moves and abilities.

As the video ended, he raised up his eyes and saw Mr Victor staring intently at him.

Averting his own eyes with an awkward look on his face, he passed the iPad back to Mr Victor as he gave his review;

"It's quite amazing sir"

"True..true" Mr Victor nodded in acquiescence, but seemed yet to be satisfied with that answer.

"But is that all you saw in the video?"

At this point, Tisane frowned slightly as he involuntarily gazed at Mr Victor.

_'Is there a hidden message that he wants me to see in that video?'_

Tisane thought as he reflected on the video, when suddenly it hit him as his eyes gleamed.

"Potentiality sir"

"What did you say?" Mr Victor gaped in surprise.

"I saw a group of people who could help protect this world...or destroy it"

Tisane said simply as he stared at Mr Victor, no longer unnerved or awkward.

"That's correct my boy.....haha!" Mr Victor burst into laughter as he gazed at Tisane with a gratifying look.

Leaning forward, he looked Tisane straight in the eyes and explained;

"Listen Tisane, mutants have always existed among us for eons, according to ancient texts, mutants were known for one major duty that they rendered to humanity"

"And what was that sir?" Tisane asked with interest.

"Protection" Mr Victor said simply.

******************

Sabrina gently opened her eyes, as she found herself in a room.

Slowly raising herself up in a sitting position, she glanced around the room which gave off a cozy atmosphere.

But she was not deceived by this as she raised her senses and picked up on another vibe.

This was a hospital room.

Or more or less a medical facility.

As she came down from the bed, the door was gently pushed open, as a lady walked in, only to freeze in surprise as she saw Sabrina.

Her surprise turned to one of warm happiness, as she approached Sabrina.

"Miss, good to know you're awake" she said with lively excitement.

"How do you feel?"

"Am fine" Sabrina replied indifferently as she studied the lady.

She noticed that the lady was carrying a bouquet of flowers and dressed in a simple white cotton shirt and trousers, the same typical clothing that nurses wear in hospitals.

"Where am I?"

"Oh you're in the M.D.F"

"The what?"

"The Mutant Diagnostic Facility" the lady replied for clarification as she proceeded to the desk drawer by the bed and replaced the old withered flower with the new one.

"How long was I unconscious?" Sabrina proceeded to ask.

"Uh....just a couple of hours" the lady replied as she finished dressing up the flowers in the vase.

"Do you want me to get you anything....like food, clothes–"

"Am fine th–"

~Grurp~

Sabrina began to refuse, when her stomach immediately growled.

It was quite loud and slightly embarrassing as Sabrina placed her hands on her stomach with a blush and awkward look on her face.

The lady giggled upon seeing this as she said;

"Don't worry miss, our cafeteria serves one of the best delicacies in the country....

Why don't you freshen up in the bathroom while I bring you a new set of clothes and then you can come down with me to the cafeteria to eat....okay?"

Sabrina nodded after discovering that apart from hunger, she was quite sweaty all over.

--------------------------

Jerry sat down in the lounge as he held his head in his hands while in deep thought.

He reflected on what Mr Mohammed said to him earlier before he left;

_{I find it disappointing and disgraceful that you stood by and watched as your friends were beaten and almost killed}_

Jerry felt a deep pang of guilt and regret when those words were dished out to him.

Matthew had always been there for him while in mutant school, but when it came down to his turn, he couldn't return the favor.

If he couldn't even adequately help his friends, then what was the point of all the training and tests.

Maybe he was not cut out to be a mutant.

Maybe he should just quit and go back home.

Though he remembered that before he was enrolled into the mutant school, he had to sign an agreement to be it's protege until he graduated.

But now, he was not sure that he wanted to continue his mutant training anymore.

*********************

"Protection?" Tisane asked with a puzzled look.

"Hmm" Mr Victor nodded as he explained;

"The world has always been threatened by monstrous creatures that existed beyond our planet... though I don't know much of the details, but I do know that these monsters had always brought death and destruction with them any time they invaded our world"

"So do you still think these monsters are still around?" Tisane asked.

"Not sure" Mr Victor shrugged.

"But what I do know is that the world needs you mutants now more than ever and most especially at this present moment, your country needs you"

Mr Victor brought out a video clip on the iPad and showed it to Tisane.

"That is a live video gotten by one of our security operatives from the scene of the attack"

Tisane watched the video clip of a brutal assault made by a team of what looked to be armed men with terrifying weapons and artillery.

"Who are these guys sir?" Tisane asked as soon as the video ended.

"Those are the dreaded boko haram insurgents"

The boko haram!

Tisane's eyes widened slightly when he heard those words.

He had heard of the boko haram.

These guys were said to be the most terrifying group of terrorists in the country that had begun to carve out a territory for themselves.

"I am putting together an elite team of highly trained individuals who would brave the boko haram territory and terminate their leader"

Mr Victor said as he poured himself another drink.

Huh?

Tisane stared with slightly raised eyebrows as he caught the meaning behind Mr Victor's words.

Terminate as in kill?

"And I would like for you to be part of that team....what do you say?"

"Uh...." Tisane was not sure how he should respond.

"I know that this is sudden and am not expecting you to give me your answer now—just think about it—the operation will be commencing two weeks from today, so you can give me your reply before then"

Tisane heaved a sigh of relief as he nodded.

"Alright sir"

"In the meantime, you are free to go and do what you want to do"

---------------------------------------

After being permitted by Mr Victor to leave work early, Tisane took a cab to his apartment.

On getting to the front door, he discovered in surprise that it had been repaired and fixed.

Stepping into the room, he noticed a lot of gifts and packages arranged neatly on his bed.

Picking a piece of paper that was folded into one of the gifts, he read;

(From your beloved family....come home when you close from work okay?)

Tisane smiled as he dropped the paper and began to inspect the gifts, when a sudden vision flashed in his mind.

Tisane held his head immediately as he was being struck with a strong headache.

In his vision, he saw what looked like a glowing object slamming into him as he passed out.

The image was quite fast that he couldn't make sense out of it.

_'G.D.I'_ Tisane called through his mind as confusion was etched on his face.

[Yes master]

_'What sort of vision was that?'_

[Uh....not sure master]

G.D.I's surprising ignorance was unnoticed by Tisane as he tried to shake off the sudden vision from his mind.
