Chapter 45: King of The Hill II

She cracked her whip, prompting the crowd of students to confirm that they understood the rules.

Hearing this, Midnight put her whip back on her belt before licking her lips in a way that made Peter shiver.

"Wonderful~"

...

Sensing the imminent start of the event, Peter ducked behind the people around him before pulling the red mask over his face, his goggles quickly finding themselves over his eyes.

The white lenses squinted and widened, Peter smiled at how they seemed to be working perfectly before standing back up.

Thankfully, the students around him didn't seem to notice since he was towards the back of the crowd.

Nice thinking, past Peter!

"Now, on your marks…"

Peter checked his web-shooters to see they were fully loaded, taking a deep breath.

"Get set…"

White lenses squinted at the series of pillars as Peter scanned over them, fingers hovering above the triggers to his web-shooters.

He wonders how much chaos the first few seconds are gonna be.

"Go!" At her announcement, the crowd erupts into cheers and yells as most of the students on the ground break into a mad sprint toward the pillars.

Yeah.

Peter wasn't planning on sprinting.

He had a more spectacular idea in mind

The teen shot two webs at two different pillars, grabbing both of them in one hand before shooting a web at the stadium wall behind him.

Man, he just hopes this makeshift slingshot works!

Hopefully it will.

Jumping into the air, Peter pulled himself back by the web connecting to the stadium wall before closing his eyes to listen to the tension and strain the lines were in.

Oh, please let this work…

Waiting another moment, Peter let go of the web connected to the wall and hoped for the best.

Next thing he knew, he was flying through the air as the stadium roared so loud that his ears hurt, Peter couldn't help but let out a whoop as he twisted his body so he could stick to a pillar when he landed.

He landed on the side of the pillar at incredible speeds, with Peter barely having time to stick to the granite by his hands and feet.

"That was awesome…" He muttered, taking a breath before looking around him.

Remember when he said there was gonna be chaos at the start?

Yeah.

That was an understatement.

People with high mobility quirks immediately started to fight over the top pillars, with everyone at the bottom currently fighting over even getting to a pillar.

Kinda reminded him of some zombie movie from 2013 he saw, now that he thought about it!

But whatever, he'd make internal movie references later.

He had stuff to do and events to win!

Not wasting any time, Peter pulled back his hands off the granite surface and stood upright on it before beginning to run full sprint up towards the top.

As he ran, his spider-sense rang all around him, allowing him to jump around and dodges everything from fire, energy blasts, lightning, and even someone's detached arm.

Soon enough, Peter got to about 3/4s of the way up as the crowd roared around him, the boy aiming his wrists in front of him.

Peter shot the webs at the edge of the top platform, yanking himself upwards into the air and above the boy with bird-like wings standing on it.

He landed in a crouch, immediately shooting a web at the boy's feet before bringing him to the ground.

Oh, he was gonna feel so bad about this later!

Quickly, Peter stuck both his wings together in a cocoon of silk before picking him up as the boy fought to break out of the webs.

"Sorry man! It'll dissolve in an hour!" Peter apologized, throwing the boy off of the platform and into the cushioned floor far below.

Woah, he just realized how far of a fall that was.

Eh, he'd be fine!

Alright, that's a pillar to himself! It has to be around the top five tallest ones so he should b-

At the back of his skull, his spider-sense blared in warning just in time for Peter to backflip out of the way of a beam of blue lightning.

Crap! He forgot about the defending part!

Peter landed back on the platform, his lenses widening as a blue-haired girl with blue electricity dancing all around her body appeared before him.

Looking closely at her, he could notice a few lightning-shaped scars on her skin.

She scowled, holding out her hands and shooting blasts of lighting that Peter flipped over.

"Woah! How about we calm down, huh? I bet we can talk this out!"

Peter shot a barrage of webbing that the blue-haired girl dodged with a quick roll before sending several blasts of lighting his way.

He tried to twist his body around them, a few graced his skin and clothes before he touched the ground.

Quickly, he pulled himself towards her on a web, with the girl sidestepping and throwing a punch that Peter twisted his body around before landing.

Once on the ground, Peter swept her leg out from under her and webbed her hands together.

Suddenly, she burst into an explosion of blue lighting that threw Peter off of the platform and into the air.

Alright, he had to fight an electric girl now?

Just what he needed!

While in the air, Peter could faintly hear Present Mic commentating on the event as the stadium exploded into cheers, the sounds all blending together along with the fighting from beneath him.

God, did he hate having better hearing right now!

But whatever, he needed to focus right now!

Holding out both wrists, he shot twin webs that stuck to the hexagonal platform that the girl was standing on, Peter yanking himself back towards it.

"You're not getting rid of me like that, man! How about you ask me nicely and then I'll think about it!" The masked teen quipped, landing in a roll and shooting a web that covered her eyes.

With her vision impaired, Peter grabbed her by the arm before throwing her off the platform with a huff.

Peter peaked over the edge, watching as the girl cursed him out before landing softly below.

Good riddance! That explosion thingy she did hurt!

A lot!

Below, the girl flipped him off before going to fight someone else.

Alright, she should leave him alone.

Hopefully.

Switching his gaze from her, his lenses squinted at the sight of Togata kicking a bunch of different people off of one of the lower pillars, the blonde having lost his shirt along the way.

At least he still had his pants on!

For now, at least.

Peter hoped it would stay that way.

His lenses began scanning the area again until landing on Amajiki who was seemingly in a fight with someone on one of the middle pillars, the boy taking swipes with his hands-turned-pincers.

Even so, for the life of him he couldn't find Nejire! She was probably around the top since she could fly and all.

Eh, he'd just ask her later about w-

Mid-thought, Peter flipped backward and barely avoided a tall-looking guy with golden skin and hair slamming into the spot where he just was, cracking the granite under him.

Oh, c'mon!

Give him a break already!

"Get the fuck back here!" The gold-haired growled, Peter twisting his body around a left hook and landing in a crouch.

"Watch the language, man! There are kids watching this thing!"

Peter's hand balled into a fist, the boy punching his opponent hard in the face with a dull clang.

A sharp sense of pain shot from his hand all over his forearm, Peter pulling back his arm with a hiss of pain.

Ow !

That felt like punching a truck a dozen times! But like, worse!

God, he should've really thought ahead.

Holding his hurt hand with his good one, Peter took a few deep breaths before finally looking back at the scowling boy in front of him.

"Can't we talk this out, man? Solve this diplomatically?" He asked, his lenses portraying an almost hopeful look.

The only response he got was a scoff before he had to dodge another punch, Peter was about to try and punch him back before he remembered the guy was made out of metal.

Cause that was fair.

In his moment of hesitation, Peter missed the buzzing at the back of his skull that was warning him of the hand rapidly approaching the collar of his shirt.

Crap.

Grabbing onto the back of his shirt, Peter was hoisted up above the boy's head before being thrown off the platform.

Huh, kinda reminded him of that wrestler gig he did that one time.

But he could reminisce later, he had stuff to do.

Holding out his good hand, Peter pressed the trigger in a frantic manner but all he got was a weak spurt of web-fluid and the click of an empty cartridge.

Aw, c'mon!

Man, so much for having a better capacity.

Just as he got ready to brace the probably soft fall, he felt someone catch him in their arms.

Opening his eyes, he was met with blue ones starting right back.

Oh, Nejire!

Talk about Deus ex Machina!

"Uh, hey man!" Peter said, still in her arms as she grinned down at him. "How's it going?"

"Great! I've been defending this pillar and stuff, it's been super fun! Did you get thrown off yours?" She asked, Peter only nodded up at her. "Man, that sucks!"

Wait, how was she still holding him up? It was as if he weighed nothing!

And man did his face feel hot right now.
