Caroline immediately realized the reason why Eddison didn't inform her about his parents' arrival. It was because his phone was with Vanessa all this while.

It was highly likely that they must have done more to stop him from informing her in advance, thus that their persuasion could work.

No wonder Eddison would have such a strong sense of vigilance when he had Vanessa as his mother.

Vanessa looked a little startled as she denied, "Your phone? It isn't with me. Did you leave it in the car instead? Aren't you using several phones at the same time? Do you want me to help you look for it in the car?"

Eddison pursed his lips. He glanced at Vanessa for a couple of seconds before saying, "It's fine. I can look for it in the car with Caroline instead."

He then put his arm around Caroline's shoulders before heading downstairs together. He didn't give Vanessa a look anymore.
