Shadows and Scrutiny

Chapter 48: Shadows and Scrutiny

In the hushed atmosphere of the bookstore, Bayo's gaze drifted across the room, settling on a figure that stirred a faint sense of recognition. The man's features, obscured by the book he held, nagged at Bayo's memory. A fleeting image of the Harvard train station flickered in his mind, but he couldn't quite place it.

Amina's voice cut through his thoughts. "Over here," she called softly, gesturing towards a section labeled 'Religious and African Traditions'. She pulled a book from the shelf, its spine bearing the title "The Spiritual Realm".

"Why this one?" Bayo asked, his fingers tracing the embossed letters.

Amina's lips curved into an enigmatic smile. "Read it," she said simply. "You might find it... illuminating."

As they approached the counter, Bayo's attention was drawn once more to the mysterious man. But in the blink of an eye, the figure had vanished, leaving Bayo to question his own perception.
