The sudden collapse

Chapter 96: The sudden collapse

John greeted them at the door, his face etched with worry. Dark circles under his eyes betrayed a sleepless night. "I searched everywhere last night," he said, ushering them inside. "Nothing." He was referring to the Auburn Memorial Hospital plan. That plan was supposed to make things easier for Bayo, but it just disappeared out of thin air like the engine drawing.

Ruth, hovering nervously behind John, interjected, her voice quavering, "I... I hope you don't mind. I couldn't stay alone. This neighborhood..." Her voice trailed off, eyes darting anxiously. Her hands twisted the fabric of her dress, betraying her unease.

Bayo attempted to reassure her, his voice gentle. "Kì í ṣe gbogbo àwọn ọmọ Amẹ́ríkà ni--- [Not all Americans are---]" he began, but stopped as Adeola subtly shook her head. He realized his words were only heightening Ruth's anxiety.
