CHAPTER 1.

MIRA'S POV.

The alarm clock rang loudly in the silence and I stretch my hand towards my night stand to shut the annoying thing off. After it finally went off, I sat up on my bed yawing loudly. I opened my eyes but couldn't see clearly so I reached for my glasses on my nightstand and put it on, that way I could see more clearly.

I glance around my room with a tired sigh. My clothes were scattered all over the place, some on the table, some on my armchair, some on the floor and the others hanging off the bed. There was even some of it on my door.

I am not the neatest person ever but I try my best to clean up as best as I could.

I got out of bed and crossed over the pile of clothes to the bathroom to begin my morning routine of brushing my teeth, taking a bath and getting ready for school. After taking a bath I picked out a few clothes of mine and stared at the mirror while changing.

Bright blue eyes stared back at me through my glasses. All I could see was a very fat girl with ugly glasses and lots of pimples on her face, dirty blond hair that looks unattractive and unkempt and a huge body that no boy would ever want to look at.

I thought about my sister and her light blue eyes that always seem to drive everyone crazy, sunflower blond hair that literally glows in the sun, killer body like that of a super model that always seem to drive boys crazy and her confident personality.

We were sisters but we were nothing like each other. While she was loved by everyone at school for being the most attractive girl, I was hated for being ugly. Maybe that is why Benjamin Hudson is her best friend.

Benjamin Hudson is by far the most handsome boy in Brentwood high. He was the school bad boy with silky brown hair and green eyes. Girls were crazy about him and the boys fear and respect him. He was like the school Lord who no one dares to mess with but when it comes to my sister Natasha, Benjamin is the softest puppy ever.

They have known each other since Grade school and have been close ever since. Sometimes Benjamin came over to our house because his parents were close friends of ours. I would always stare at him because he was so pretty, but ever since he yelled at me for being a stalking freak, I learnt to tone it down and reduce my staring at him, although I still stare at him during lunch at school in the cafeteria because he was always too busy to notice me staring.

I've had a crush on Benjamin from the very moment I set my eyes on him in grade school. Even though he was my sister's friend, he never paid any attention to me, he never liked me and I know he never would, because I can never be as beautiful as my sister.

I quickly pushed out the depressing thought and quickly got dressed for the day, and then I picked up my back pack and went out of my room. The smell of fried eggs and coffee assaulted my nose the moment I stepped out and I knew mom must have already made breakfast and is setting the table.

"Morning mom" I greeted taking a seat in my designated sit of a dining table of four chairs.

"Morning dear, how was your night?" Mom answered back with a bright smile as she set the last plate of egg and a mug of coffee on the table.

"It was lovely and yours?"

"It was lovely too honey. Go ahead and have your breakfast, I don't want you to be late for school" she patted my head and settled on her own side of the table.

Soon Father and Natasha joined us at the table, "morning my lovely princesses" he greeted brightly taking his own seat at the head of the table.

"Morning honey" mom replied.

"Morning Dad" I greeted too, only Natasha said nothing.

As we had breakfast, Dad started to ask about school and how everything was going for us, and then he said "Mira dear, you are always alone. You barely bring any friends home and it worries me dear"

"Your father is right Mira. You aren't having problems with making friends are you?" mom asked.

"No mom, I am fine. I have my friends Vivian and Collins. I am not always alone" I said quickly to avoid another awkward morning.

"They are not enough Mira. You need more friends, you need to be social like your sister." He then stares at Natasha who was having her breakfast and was not paying any attention to the conversation. Oh God I don't want him to say anything to Natasha, it will only make her hate me more "Natasha, you have more friends than Mira, you should help her make some really good friends"

Natasha glances up and glared at me. I quickly looked away from her. Why did dad have to make her mad at me this early in the morning? "It is not my fault that she is so fat and ugly. No one likes her at school, and I hate to be seen with her. I don't even want anyone knowing that she's my sister because she disgusts me!"

I lowered my head in shame, tears threatening to flow out of my eyes.

"Stop that Natasha! Do not talk about your sister that way!" mom scolded in anger.

Natasha banged her spoon against the table, "all you two ever talk about is Mira Mira Mira! I hate it! You only care about her and only want to know about her, for God sake I am your daughter too!"

"Natasha stop this madness! And stop yelling at your mother, you are being disrespectful!" father said coldly.

Natasha stood up angrily and glared down at me "I hate you Mirabel and thank you for ruining breakfast for me!" without another glance, she turned and walked out of the house, ignoring our parent calling her name.

Father sighed tiredly "I do not understand why that girl is acting so aggressive and angry all the time. What has gotten into her?"

"Dad, Mom its better if you two stop paying too much attention to me because I'm sick. It'll only make Natasha hate me more. She'll think I am stealing your love away from her" I said to them in a small sad voice.

Mom sighed and held my hand across the table "you are the one who doesn't want us to tell her that you're sick honey. She needs to know"

"Not yet mom and I thank you two for caring about me so much, but you should also pay attention to Natasha; she is your daughter too." I dropped my spoon and stood up "I'll be heading to school now" I walked out of the house sadly.

Yes I was sick but that doesn't mean they should ignore their other child just to take care of me. I really love my sister. We use to be close until she started to feel like I was stealing our parent away from her. Ever since then, she stopped being nice to me.

I arrived at school a few moments later with my head down; ignoring the disgusting look everyone was throwing my way in the hallways.

To my relief my friends Vivian and Collins joined me on my way to our first class and I didn't feel so alone anymore. "Hey Mira, what's up?" Vivian threw her arms around me grinning from ear to ear. Unlike me, Vivian is slim and pretty with a round face, brown eyes and dark brown hair that was pulled in two pig tails, but she has also being labeled a loser because she was always around me.

"I am fine, just another hectic morning." I answered slowly, a bit self-conscious that Vivian's arm barely wrap around my fat body.

"Don't tell me Natasha had one of her usual tantrums" Vivian said with a roll of her eyes.

"You guessed it right" I replied with a sigh. They knew about my problems with my sister because Natasha does not even bother to hide her dislike for me in school.

"You should just ignore her," Collins put in "she will do nothing more but to cause you problems if you get in her way." Like me Collins had glasses on, he wasn't very tall and his buzz cut was not very attractive with his thick black hair, but he is very nice and friendly and also a big time nerd.

As the three of us made our way down the hallway ignoring the stares and whispered, I saw my sister coming from the opposite direction with her group of popular friends and that includes Benjamin Hudson.

I could not help but stare at him with wide love sick eyes. He was dressed in a black leather jacket over a white shirt and tight fitting jeans. His brown hair was styled expertly. Although his eyes were cold and unsmiling, he still looked like a geek God.

Too caught up in my staring at Benjamin, I didn't notice someone threw a banana peel in front of me, so I accidentally stepped on it and slip then I fell against the tiles floor with a loud thud. At first there was silence until Collins and Vivian rushed forward.

"Mira are you okay?" They asked.

I was about to answer but then everyone started to laugh at me. "it felt like they was an earth quake when she fell down. The ground shook" someone said.

"Damn she is so fat it's disgusting"

"I think a glutton needs to suck the fat out of her"

They made nasty comments and laughed at me and soon my eyes started to well up with tears, but to my surprise Benjamin came towards me and everyone immediately stop laughing. He stretches his hand out to me and offered me a warm smile. I felt my heart pound in my chest, what is this? Why is he suddenly being so nice?

I took his hand slowly and warily expecting him to play a prank and let go so I would fall back down half way, but he did none of that, instead he helped me up gently. "that is enough guys, you shouldn't laugh at the poor girl. Its not her fault that she's fat! Give her a break!"

"What the hell Ben, what has suddenly come over you? Why are you helping that freak?!" Natasha yelled at her best friend.

"You should stop too Tasha. Mirabel is your sister" he said.

Natasha looked so angry now "thank you Mirabel, you stole Dad and mom away from me and now you want to steal my best friend? You are so selfish!" she snap and walked off.

All I could do was stare at Benjamin in shock. Is this a dream?

Why did Benjamin defend me?

He used to hate me.

What changed?
