Chapter 22: A Testing of Loyalty

Manager To-Soren gave her a private number before the time was up. Megan used her new phone to make the connection, after setting up a dummy email account all the calls would be traced back to. Then she downloaded a voice changer, put a piece of tape over the camera – low tech is sometimes best – and made the call.

“Manager Kia To-Soren,” she said as the line connected, “Are you in a place where you can talk freely?”

“I am,” she said. Then she took a breath. “And I’m only calling to tell you that we do not negotiate with kidnappers.”

“Yes, a bomb that did not kill her. Did you use it to cover the kidnapping?”

“I’m not a kidnapper,” Megan said. She had to cut To-Soren off; she was starting to get angry. “I said I have information on her. Not that I have her in my possession.”
