Chapter 50: Convince the World or Convince the Audience?

There was no way to trust Leslie Scarlet. Her goal initially had been to come in here and fight with her, to kill her if at all possible. It was still a possibility, but there really was so much more possible with going along with the alliance being offered here.

She could see it as joining with the enemy, and in a sense it was, but that enemy was only an enemy in the broadest strokes. As Leslie had pointed out, they both tried to kill one another. Turnabout was fair play, and they were even. This was a chance to avoid Leslie's revenge strike, or at least to be closer to her when it happened.

It could have been possible to keep going on her own, to build up the Agency with just the help of other players. That would leave them with a safe place to talk to one another, a place unhackable by any in this world. They could speak in the other world, the real people outside the game. But that would limit the power of the Agency.
