Chapter 14: The Truth About Being a Vampire

Lucy was quick to head out of the classroom and down the hall towards her last class of the night. She didn’t look back; she didn’t want to know if Celeste was looking for her or hoping to talk. She just felt angry and defensive.

Lucy kept her eyes on the ground and walked too quickly for such a crowded space. She closed her eyes momentarily and shook her head. She ran right into someone, and almost fell, losing her balance. She shook her head and caught herself.

“I’m so sorry!” she screamed quickly, looking up to see Veronika standing there.

“Hey, are you okay? I was calling your name, but you didn’t seem to hear me,” Veronika answered. She helped Lucy stand and then wrapped her arms around Lucy’s, holding her still. Veronika looked at her like she was trying to solve a math problem in Lucy’s eyes.

“I’m sorry about that, I was… distracted.”
