Obsession is the most wasteful human activity. Because with an obsession, you keep coming back to the same question over and over and over again and never get an answer to that question.
"I can't believe they did this to me. I considered them my family and this is how they repayed me. I wonder if Mum will be disappointed that I wasted my life.
Of course she'll be disappointed. They're all monsters."
She felt herself falling down into a very deep pit. Then felt a sharp object pierced her chest.
She jolted awake panting with a hand on her chest. She frowned recognizing her surrounding.
But that's not where she was lastly.
She looked around again then at her clothes and stared at her hand confused.
"Was it a dream?"
She asked herself but noticed something different with her voice. She cleared her throat and talked again but it was still the same. It was younger and not the twenty-five years old lady. She grabbed the mirror on the bedside cupboard and looked at her face which was younger. She kept the mirror back and looked at her hands again confused.
Was it really a dream?
But it felt so real.
She was so focused on herself that she didn't hear the door opening.
Could it be...
"I've been reborn? I've been reborn!"
She thought excitedly as her confused face turned into a happy one and she jumped off the bed happily.
"Has she finally gone mad?"
She heard someone say and turned to look at the two people behind her. Tears welled up in her eyes and she rushed to hug the older one tightly.
He stared at her in shock and didn't recover for a very long time.
"I'm sorry. I was just happy that you're back again."
She said and allowed him and wiped her eyes and smiled at the other boy who kept looking at her as if she had grown two heads.
"What?"
She asked him. Although she already knew why
"You, Amber Swares, miss my big bro, Tristan D'Almundo? Are you the real Amber? Or are you just pretending again?"
Gamal asked glaring at her.
"I'm not lying I swear on my Mum's...I swear on my life. I'm not trying to trick you."
Amber said raising three fingers up. Tristan looked at her then turned around to leave.
"We're _"
"When are we leaving?"
Gamal's eyes almost fell off his sockets. Amber interrupted Tristan with a hopeful expression. She looked at the brothers but it seemed like no one was going to answer soon.
"You want to leave with us?"
Gamal asked pointing at her and then at himself and Tristan.
"Yes. Should I start packing?"
She asked looking at Tristan's back.
"Change. The maids will pack your things."
Tristan finally answered and left. But Gamal stood there with arms crossed over his chest.
"What happened?"
He asked looking at her eyes to see if she was lying.
"Nothing. I realized I wasn't behaving properly. So as from henceforth, I will do everything possible to change."
"You? Change? I'd like_no love to see that."
Gamal said and finally left. Amber smiled and happily went to change her clothes after having a quick shower and styles her hair.
She looked around the room and secretly made a vow.
"They'll regret ever treating me bad and using me. And I'll try to not give the D'Almundo family any troubles."
...
Downstairs
"If you skip just a week without seeing me, I'll personally kill you and offer your body to our ancestors."
Clarissa warned Gamal as she walked them to the door and the maids took Amber's things to the car.
"Don't worry Mum. As long as big bro doesn't kill me I'll always be here."
Gamal reassured his mother with a smile showing his sharp canine teeth.
"Brother I'm ready."
Amber said standing beside Gamal. She wore a black skort skirt with a white hoodie t-shirt. And her hair was styled in a rope braid and light makeup.
Gamal blinked and looked at his parents' and Tristan's expression to make sure he wasn't seeing things.
Henry cleared his throat bringing everyone back to life.
"Uncle Henry, Aunt Clarissa, thank you for taking good care of me. I really appreciate it."
Amber said and gave a bow and smiled. Clarissa had to put on her lenses to make sure she wasn't mistaking. The situation became even more awkward with the silence.
Tristan's expression quickly adjusted to his usual expressionless face as if the shocked face didn't belong to him. He nodded at his father and kiss his Mom on her forehead and walked to his car and Amber quickly followed him and entered the car.
"What are you doing?"
Tristan asked her as she sat on the passenger seat and buckled her seatbelt.
"Seatbelt?"
She answered him back looking confused too even though she knew why he asked.
In her previous life, she avoided any kind of contact with Tristan. Even in a car she would rather be kept at the trunk of the car than be with him. Her willingly sitting beside him was a real surprise. Not only to him but also Gamal who watched as she entered the car before going to his.
Tristan focused back on the road but taking few glances at the girl wondering if she was really okay. His phone rang and he answered it connected to the speaker.
"Big bro is she okay? I think she's planning something. How come she's suddenly obedient and actually dressed like a human being today?"
Gamal's voice immediately sounded as the call was answered. His car was ahead of Tristan's but he made sure they weren't separated so he didn't drive fast.
"I really think that one's a fake. When we get back you should check."
Gamal continued. As the idea was brought up, the temperature in the car dropped to a point where Amber thought she would turn into an icecube soon.
"Damn this idiot. Stop talking already I still want to enjoy this second life I was given. And that I'm fake? Even if all geniuses in the world come together there is no way they can clone me.
But I really don't blame him when I've been acting like an asswhole since we met."
Amber thought as she clutched onto the seatbelt as if it could save her from Tristan's cold eyes. It was even worse when she saw him parking the car by the side of the road.
"Oh no."
She thought as she shut her eyes closed.
"Big bro why did you slow down? Is she causing trouble again? Big bro?"
Gamal kept talking but Tristan didn't care and dropped the call and turned to face the girl who kept shrinking into the seat.
He furrowed his brows and reached for her nape.
"I'm not fake I swear. I just want to change."
She said in one breath and in an almost chipmunk voice. Tristan ignored her and continued with his search. He looked at her nape and allowed her. He went back to driving and Gamal's car which stopped also started moving.
They drove to a secluded area with very few houses. It almost looked like a residential area but the space between houses was enough for another house to fit in. Well except the two houses that were separated by a small white fense that reached the waist.
Tristan and Gamal packed their cars and Gamal hurriedly ran from his side, jumped over the fence, put Tristan's password and entered the house before he could say anything. Tristan sighed and turned to take Amber's bags inside his place but paused to look at her to see if she was refusing or something but she actually took one of the bags from him and pulled inside the house.
