In a marriage of convenience, Nathan, after a night of drinking, has an affair with Ava, leading to her ectopic pregnancy.

Ava felt goosebumps rise at the cloying sweetness in Iris's voice. "It is quite a coincidence," she managed to say.

Despite her disdain for Iris's character, Ava saw no need to start a public confrontation.

"Had I known you were coming, I would have joined you. It's tough being here for the first time without anyone to talk to," Iris said, trying to sound congenial.

Ava's response, however, was noticeably cooler. "Our design styles are different; there's not much for us to discuss."
