A Double Defeat

Nathan had hoped to see Ava, but instead, Iris appeared before him.

"Nathan, I'm truly sorry about last night. I had no choice... I really love you, and I thought, even if you left me someday, having a child of yours would give me some solace," Iris said, her voice laden with tears, looking pitifully vulnerable. However, Nathan watched her dispassionately, unaffected by her attempt to garner sympathy. Playing the victim was not always an effective strategy.

Iris cried for a while without eliciting any response from Nathan, which left her feeling dejected. Eventually, she wiped away her tears and approached Nathan with a humble tone, her head bowed.

"I know you're angry with me, but if it makes you feel better to hit or yell at me, I'll accept it."

"Get out!" Nathan said, his voice icy and sharp. The very thought of Iris using such devious methods filled him with rage.
